"I am afraid I have already answered this question,” He shuts his eyes on reflex. It feels a bit disrespectful to regard her in such a manner.
She hums. “Not to be alive,” There is a small pause. “To live.”

Back in the galley, Sanji pours himself a glass of water and drinks it slowly. He imagines the cramp wrenching through Zoro’s leg, locking around the very muscles he trusts to carry him through every fight. His own calf aches in answer, an ugly pulse of sympathy that makes him want to crawl out of his skin.
Before he can root it out, the feeling has already flowered into a plan.
He sets the glass down and wipes his hands on his apron.
Something wet, then, for tomorrow. Something that'll slide past that thick skull before Zoro even notices he's swallowing it.

“No.” The word grinds out between clenched teeth, Sanji’s jaw working. For a second, Zoro can see the other eye and the maniac fire rising in both. “You ever go hungry?”

Shachi's captain was intelligent, clever, and good at reading between the lines. Most of the time.But damn, if he wasn't entirely oblivious to when a good thing was happening to him.

March had his palm read once, years back, by a hack psychic in a gaudy tent at some old timey carnival Holly had begged to go to. She'd taken one look at his craggy hands – two fingers bandaged at the time - and told him, in no uncertain terms, that if he didn't slow down, boy, he was gonna hurt himself. He tipped her very badly.
Suffice to say, he did not often have the appearance of a man in control of his own destiny.

Summary

Javier is no stranger to these aches and pains: he copes by treasuring every moment he's given, even as bad habits, old and new, start to bloom.
