Summary
Sonic fanfiction is a weird combination between 5% designated species behaviors, 5% random animal/pet behaviors and 90% human behaviors. Those combined 10% of animal behaviors is usually exaggerated obviously, and the writers know it isn’t correct most of the time, but then there’s other times. When people apply common fandom Mobian hedgehog actions and state or imply that it’s the action of IRL hedgehogs. I’ve been around hedgehogs for years now and know them inside and out. Here’s your comprehensive list of things domestic hedgehogs do and don’t do to enhance your portrayal of hedgie characters from the series, especially in fluffy fics.

" [Eiji] looks so pleased with himself, revealing the tray with a flourish, and Ash hides a smile as he finishes the eggs.
“What are Bundtlets, then?”
“A Bundtlet is a mini-Bundt cake! See?” Popping them out of the small frames that he must have ordered while at home, he shows Ash the tiny versions of the cakes. “What I’m doing is filling the dip on the inside with an icing. The chocolate ones get vanilla icing, and the yellow ones get chocolate icing. And then I’m putting them into these boxes I have here.”
Ash rinses his plate, observing the two other boxes- six Bundtlets fit neatly, three of each flavor, already finished.
“How thoughtful.” Sweet and sentimental, just like you. "

Summary
In Japan, Eiji fights an upward battle of pill bottles, broken relationships, and the bone-deep loss of losing his best friend (and secret first love). He struggles to navigate his life and struggles even more with letting go.
Meanwhile, a dead man roams the streets of New York City. Ash's revenge has only begun. Though his death had been faked, the sharp pain of lying to Eiji follows him as he continues to raze Golzine's empire to the ground. But once this was over, and the dust settled in Ash's wake, he'd go to Japan. He'd finally return to Eiji.

Summary
Post Garden of Light. Once Akira leaves NYC, Sing and Eiji take a trip up to Maine to come to terms both with Ash and with each other. Eight years is a long time to wait for someone - for both of them.
He finishes and beckons Sing closer so he can stuff his camera back in its protective case and into his bag. Sing jostles with both gear bag and camera bag and keeping his balance on the ledge they’re on; he’s about to lose his footing when Eiji reaches out and pulls him in by the elbow, camera slung over his arm and swinging free. Sing throws a hand out and holds Eiji by the shoulder and scoops up the camera and lets momentum carry him forward into Eiji and both of them into the wall of the ledge with a thump.
Sing can feel Eiji’s breath on his face, his chest against Eiji’s chest, the clutter of bags weighing on his shoulders. Eiji looks soft and surprised in the low light, his hair whipped out of his ponytail and floating free around his face. Sing reaches up and tucks a strand behind Eiji’s ear, and if he lets his fingers linger a bit down the curve of Eiji’s jaw, he’s not going to apologize for it.
