Really, he should have known that David was… preoccupied. Usually, David knows when Jack gets home from work and will meet him out in the living room so they can have dinner together- usually leftovers- and bitch about all the weird shit they had to deal with in the twelve-odd hours they’ve spent away from each other. Typical roommate stuff. Jack guesses that David must have been distracted with– yeah, and that’s why he didn’t realize Jack was home, and why he must have thought he was alone in the apartment, and Jack can’t think of anything aside from David when he shuts the door to his room.
Turning in a small circle, Jack rubs his face and groans. “What the fuck,” He mutters to himself, then shakes his arms out and hurries to his dresser. “What the fuck,” He repeats as he pulls his work shirt over his head, slipping into a more comfortable crew neck, and he debates for a long moment whether he should just– should he change out of his jeans? The thought slapped him across the face, totally out of nowhere. Jack wasn’t really doing anything special— he was just reclined in David’s bed with his dinner on his lap, and he had a few chip crumbs on his thighs. He didn’t look any prettier than usual. He was just being Jack, staring off at the posters on the adjacent wall, probably thinking about the color composition or some artsy thing like that.
And David was in love with him.
With Jack. David was in love with Jack Kelly, and maybe he’d been in love with Jack Kelly for years and was just now realizing it, because of a stupid plate of quesadillas and the stupid way Jack said ‘made sure it was kosher, too’ because Jack cared about him and remembered the little things and holy shit, David was so fucking in love.
