Moody Blues is still watching, waiting. Abbacchio indulges himself in imagining a resentment upon its plastic features. “Yeah, yeah,” he says, flicking his hand at it and raising his glass to his mouth. “Go over to the doorway. March twelfth, 1999. Start at, uh, 2AM, and track forward, slowly.”
3AM’s definitely closer to the mark. The bar Abbacchio had been kicked out of had been closed for at least an hour before Buccellati found him in that alleyway. Moody Blues’s face seems to be making some kind of point along those lines, as it finds its position by the front door and begins the process – but Abbacchio needs a moment. Just one more moment. Just a few minutes, so he can brace himself. He knows how much seeing his face again is going to hurt.
And it does, even more than he had expected.
