It’s just a prickling at the back of his neck, a faint blur when Daniel whips his head around that could be the lamplight. It only ever happens at night. Usually when he’s in San Francisco, but there’s a few times he’s walking down Telegraph Avenue, so late it’s early again, and a coldness seems to whistle past his ear.

Her arms are crossed, her brows furrowed, and that’s familiar, but she looks like she’s seen a proper shower recently, not just a dip in the pond. Nemik tries to concentrate on her words, despite the distraction of her cleanness.
“You need a proper hospital,” Vel says, a statement. “Somewhere they know how to handle major prosthetics.”
