“Listen,” Jughead finally says, “you don’t owe anyone anything. Okay?” He says it in a way that makes Archie think he’s not just talking about Veronica anymore. “Just because someone’s interested in you, doesn’t mean you have to be with them. You’re allowed to choose.”
“Veronica’s nothing like Grundy,” Archie says quietly. “It’s nothing like that.”
“I know,” Jughead says, “but there’s a pattern here. Don’t pretend you don’t see it.”
Suddenly acutely aware of how intense the conversation has become, Archie clears his throat. “Anyway,” he says, “enough about me. How’s your novel coming along? How’s Betty?”
