“Oh, welcome,” she said, a soft smile tugging at her lips despite the surprise. "I’m Alexis. My husband's name is Victor Stein."
The boy nodded but didn't seem overly interested in her husband’s name. Instead, he leaned forward, narrowing his eyes as if he were trying to gauge deeper. "No," he muttered. "What’s your maiden name?"
“…Alexis Ness," she said, her voice quieter now. She didn’t usually offer that name unless she had to. But something about him made her pause, made her lower her guard just a little bit.
"Okay, Ms. Ness," Michael said, as if he’d found the answer he was looking for. "Nice to meet you."

Summary
Ness has always believed in magic.
Even now, soaked to the bone, shivering beneath the broken glow of a burned out streetlamp, he swears the city holds its own kind of sorcery. It’s in the flicker of neon signs, their colors bleeding together like oil on water. In the way the rain turns the cracked pavement into a shifting mirror, making the world seem just a little less cruel. But magic doesn’t keep him warm.
And yet, here he is, waiting. For what, he doesn’t know. Maybe for something to change. Or someone. Like a princess waiting to be kissed awake by her knight in shining armor.
The car appears before the driver. It prowls down the street, sleek and black, headlights slicing through the curtain of rain. It rolls to a slow stop across from him, engine humming low, patient. The window lowers just enough for a pale, tattooed hand to flick a cigarette out onto the pavement, the ember hissing as it drowns in the waterlogged street.
"Get in."

Summary
Michael Kaiser died in Madrid.
