While Senku knew that Byakuya meant well, the constant nagging to date was hitting his last nerve. Which was probably why he was so open to Gen's suggestion of a fake relationship to get the Old Man off his back.
He wasn't exactly surprised when it worked, but what really surprised him was just how... normal it all felt.
