Edit 1/2/26 - I'm not taking this fic down, but I was never quite happy with the way that it turned out. I had the chance to try it again in the first chapter of this fic and I'm much much happier with it. Go read that one instead!
I know Halsin's romance route is a slow burn canonically... but hear me out, what if it burned even slower?
I love the idea of Tav turning Halsin down in a "not right now" kind of way when he confesses his feelings, kind of like he had when Tav flirted with him before ending the Shadow Curse, and him pining for her all the way until after she's defeated the Absolute before they finally get together. Something about him knowing she's into him but she's just not in a headspace to do anything about it yet... The sexual tension between them of her wanting him but staying focused and him wanting her but being respectful of her boundaries.
Anyway, this is Halsin's confession scene rewritten for that instead, because the game options for turning him down are just not right for me.

Your voice shakes as you stare up at the massive beast. “M- my, you’re quite large aren’t you? Big eyes, big snout, big…” A gulp as you try to swallow around the hard lump of panic still nestled in your throat. “Teeth.”
It cocks its head to the side and lets out a huff that sounds suspiciously like a laugh. The bear’s nose twitches once before it gives its head another shake. A current of shimmering golden energy cascades over its body, radiating from the tip of its nose. Beneath the rippling tide of magic, you watch as the bear’s form shifts, fur receding and bones rearranging, until a large elf stands in its place.
“So you’re the one that’s been eating my food, wearing my clothes,” he rumbles, his voice like the thunder that heralds a coming storm. “Sleeping in my bed.”

The stream of thoughts were enough to drive the druid to madness. He knew he should control himself, behave in a manner befitting a First Druid of the Emerald Grove. Surely he had more resolve than to ask anymore of the friend he already owed so much to. He couldn’t let her know that her glance made his heart stir in ways he had not experienced in many years.
She couldn’t know how her mere presence had been a balm to his exhausted soul, leaving him feeling like a man renewed. He couldn’t share how he longed to spend his nights wrapped around her, learning every inch of her body. That even the sweetest fruit turned to ash in his mouth at the thought of the taste of honey on her thighs. How could he ever share with her that he had often wondered how her beautiful face might look in the throes of ecstasy. That he had wondered if he could ever be the one providing her ecstasy.No, Clove could never know that any of these things had even entered his mind.
