Mydei hummed, sipping at his drink. He glanced to the side, eyeing the mop of unruly snow-white hair next to him. Sensing his gaze, Phainon turned to look at him, a smile playing at his lips that didn’t quite reach his eyes.
“It’s the same as a tavern.” The crown prince murmured, letting his gaze drop back to the slowly melting ice clinking cheerily in his glass.
Phainon chuckled softly, the sound almost lost in the chaos of the bar they were in. “Yeah but… this really hammers in reality, doesn’t it?”

Summary
Phainon winced as the plate clanked noisily against the table. He hunched into his seat, trying not to meet the burning glare of the chef across the table. Beside him, Trinnon patted his leg, giving him a tiny smile to which he returned.
Turning back to his...meal...Phainon felt the smile slip off his face. In fact, it seemed as though his entire soul had ascended into the heavens and left the planet completely. The blackened mess that sat on his plate looked as though there were fumes wafting from it. Possibly poisoned ones too.

He scowled at the grinning Dick Grayson, armed and in front of the haphazard weapon pile. A refresher lecture was needed on how to treat Bats, the bounty hunter guild that’d drive him to an early grave with Grayson at the helm.

Summary
Years ago, Kaveh tore their joint research paper conclusion page in half, walked out of the office, and told Alhaitham to live his life his way.
Alhaitham listened—on the surface.
Underneath, he kept the torn pages in a drawer and spent the next few years watching from the margins: sitting in the back row of Kaveh’s lectures, nudging audits in the Bazaar, turning monsters away from a desert camp, rearranging variables so the world would hurt him a little less.
When rain and debt and bad timing finally push them back under the same roof, Kaveh discovers what’s been living between the lines of Alhaitham’s life this whole time: a vow he never said out loud, and doesn’t quite know how to return.
Or, Alhaitham spends years yearning for and protecting Kaveh in ways Kaveh was never meant to notice.
