Summary
He killed for me. Hans thinks, watching Henry pocket the severed ear wrapped in yellow silk. Behind them, bodies cool in the clearing. Ahead, miles of forest and the long road to Rattay. Between them—something neither of them dares name, twisted together like rope and blood and the weight of a trophy pressed close.
They have miles yet to go.

Summary
Stretched thin and worked to the bone, Henry has poured every ounce of himself into rescuing Hans from Maleshov, only to find duty repeatedly pulling him away again the moment Hans is safe. When Hans proposes stealing a day in Kuttenberg, just the two of them, Henry knows he ought to refuse. Instead he lets himself be led into his lord’s whims.
What he doesn’t know, however, is that every stolen hour only brings them one step closer to the truth Hans has yet to tell.

Summary
The sleepless night before they’re set to leave Nebakov and the entire Trosky region behind, Henry stitches up a wounded friend and keeps another warm.
Or, what wasn’t seen in between Henry running around like a headless chicken trying to help Zizka’s people and waking up to von Bergow on their doorstep.
