Summary
“Mrs. Shaw! Good morning, it’s nice to meet you. I’m Doctor Gill,” The woman turns around, finally looking Carson over. She pauses, faltering a moment. “You… brought a pie?”
Carson feels her cheeks tinge pink as embarrassment floods her body. “It’s, um, a conversation pie. It’s Marshmallow Mermaid.”
“That’s— Okay. A conversation pie?” A teasing smile takes over Doctor Gill’s face, and Carson thinks it might just be the prettiest smile she’s ever seen.
“I was nervous, um, about the appointment. This was supposed to help, but, um, I think it may have just made it worse, actually, so—“
“No! No, I think it’s cute.”

“I love you, Greta. I love you.”
“You shouldn’t,” Greta responds, no longer making eye contact. It seems as though she’s looking everywhere in the room besides Carson.
“Maybe not,” she replies. “But I do. I love you. And I think…” Carson takes a deep, shuddering breath. “I think you might love me too,” she finishes.
“Carson…” Greta starts, her voice low.
“Do you?” she asks, a desperate edge bleeding into her voice.
It’s silent for a beat too long.
“Oh,” Carson replies, suddenly feeling numb.

Summary
Grace Chasity was different. She was told by her peers, her teachers, though her parents never admitted it.
Being "different" was lonely. Grace wasn't good at making friends, let alone figuring herself out.
Stephanie Lauter didn't help with that. Not at all.

Summary
Something about that stops him short. “Wait, his family business was a diner?”
“Yeah,” Robin says. “My mom hated it. I think she still blames the diner for ruining all our lives.”
Steve furrows his brow, thinking. Something is starting to sound eerily familiar, but he can’t quite put his finger on it.
“Here?” he asks, straining his mind in a bid to figure out why this information doesn’t feel new.
“You might’ve known it, it was pretty popular,” she says, and that’s when his blood runs cold.
Steve learns that Robin's dad is dead. Then he finds out just who her father was. Then, worst of all, he finds out she doesn't know the truth of his death.
Or: Robin is Benny Hammond's daughter.
