The telepath cups his jaw like the hangman’s noose, and Erik finally meets his gaze. “I love you too,” he says, like a worn secret, passed around by rough and careless hands, but Erik will treasure it till the day he dies.
No one can lie to a telepath, but maybe he’d fooled them both - Charles into giving him his heart and Erik into thinking he deserved it.
