Summary
After collecting the anomalous tree marrow from the last place she ever saw Dottore, Lumine finds herself haunted by his memory. Uneasy dreams that feature his face slowly morph into hearing his voice speaking directly to her in the wakened world. Lumine must seek out help from old friends to get to the bottom of this before she says too much to the voice in her head.

“Yes.” He agrees immediately, looking down at where his ring should be.

The car is heavy with all the words they aren’t saying. Junior can feel it, he must because he keeps shifting in his seat next to Hal, and it’s only making the tension thicker, more obvious than either he or the sheriff are comfortable with. Still. He refuses to be the one to call it a night first, having decided when she picked them up that he was too tired to say goodbye tonight. Not again. Not for a little while, anyway, if he could help it.

“And I told you- I know you’re not. But you are scared.” The smug bastard is smirking at her again as he raises his beer to his lips, keeping his eyes on her the whole time his lips wrap around the opening. “C’mon. I’m a hero. Let me save you, sweetheart.”
He’s being insufferable and he knows it. If it were any other man, she’d call it a night. She doesn’t play games ever, and certainly not the kind she’s set up to lose. She’s old enough to know better, she has reminded herself of this fact almost hourly for the past few days he’s been in town, and she’s reminding herself of this fact practically second by second as she looks at him now.
But there is what you know, and what you want.
