Summary
The shadows of Mordor lie close to Gondor. Too close. It poisons the air, the water, the earth, and the hearts of men.
Denethor rules Gondor and his family with an increasingly erratic mind.
His firstborn grows up under the pressure of duty and the feeling of blood on his hands. He first goes into battle at ten, to war at fifteen, and on a quest to save his country at twenty-eight.
"By the blood of our men," Boromir tells the Council of Elrond, "Are your lands kept safe."
And it's true. But Gondor is falling.
Who will keep the Enemy's forces at bay then? Will this quest save Boromir's country or will it doom them? Will it save him from the darkness of his despair or will it ruin him further?

Just because most of Team 7 is gone, off striving for newer and greater heights, that doesn't mean the world stops for Haruno Sakura. In a world where she doesn't apprentice to the Godaime Hokage (can't, won't, what difference does it make when the result is the same?) her desperation leads her to a different solution: keeping Team 7 alive, anyway she can. Whether Kakashi-sensei wants her to or not.

Asirpa wouldn’t know unless she was looking at him. That’s how Sugimoto operates, Ogata has learned. He shields her from the reality of things far too often, and Asirpa is complicit in it. She wants to be shielded, although from what or as to why, Ogata isn’t sure yet. But he will learn.
“My mom taught me while she was down,” Sugimoto says, and that’s that.
That’s why she could never reach her full potential.
But Ogata can teach her.

Summary
After the events of War Crimes, Sokka and Zuko have escaped Zhao’s warship and are fleeing across the Earth Kingdom. As well as unfamiliar terrain, they have to navigate their shared trauma, work out where they fit into the war, and their place in each others lives.
Sokka is aware that being friends with the enemy is going to bring complications, but he probably should have guessed that being friends with Zuko in particular, was going to be a bit like dunking your head repeatedly into a bucket of angry Fire Ferrets.
Katara is also grappling with the confusion of befriending an enemy, something that doesn’t prove as difficult as she had expected with the bond of shared, furious grief bridging old wounds. (Learning a new way to look at her bending doesn't hurt either)
Azula, struggling with the Fire Lord’s mistrust, encounters a few nasty surprises and has to make some difficult decisions. Luckily, she is a great deal better at making sensible choices than her brother.
Her father may have made a slight tactical error.
