Summary
Sleep hasn't been easy for Miriam since she left the Dragon's Triangle, not with everything that happened. There aren't many people who understand what she went through, even in the Reality TV circles.
Ashley gets it, though. Sort of. She understands the fear, the pain, the hunger — the loss. The Beauty and the Nerd, now linked by the ever-so-present reminder of what they went through in that jungle. Ashley was beautiful, gorgeous even, but that archetype feels so strangely reductive now that she has truly seen her. She was still a beauty, no question about that. But she was more, so much more than that. Miriam was supposed to hate her — for what she had taken from her, how she had made her feel. Yet there was a sort of kinship between the two now, an unspoken bond they had built despite how production wanted their story to play out. Somehow, Ashley had become even more beautiful then, once the monsoon had washed away all archetypes and pretenses. It was then that she saw everything clearly.
Now they were away from all that. There was no guarantee that, without the hunger shaping their thoughts, Ashley would remember that Miriam was more than an awkward fake chemist. Maybe she was still a nerd, in her eyes.
