Summary
Tsukishima shouldn’t be thinking about this now, alone in his apartment, bone-tired after practice; he should have been thinking about it when Yamaguchi told him he’d be better off finding an apartment closer to the Frogs gym and the museum.
But Yamaguchi smiled while he said it, looked over his shoulder as he scrolled through listings, even came with him when he toured places, and it’d been so easy to go along with him then, the way it’d always been. To mistake Yamaguchi’s hands for the hands of fate and trust them to keep them together.
Stupid of him. That it took him until half his apartment was put in boxes to realize things would actually change.
One night over dinner, Yamaguchi suggests Tsukishima move out of their shared apartment building. Tsukishima agrees, and then realizes it'll be the farthest from Yamaguchi he's been in years.

Tsukishima swallows. It’s so loud that Tadashi hears it. “We should get married,” Tsukishima says. “I like… waking up next to you. When I start the day and you’re already with me, even if it’s only for a couple of minutes. I… It’d be nice if I could… for the rest of my life…”
“I put it on already, Tsukki,” Tadashi says, flashing his ring finger.
“Oh.”

“Oikawa,” Iwaizumi says, and when Tooru looks at him, he can read My best friend’s an idiot off the crease of his eyebrows. “Are you telling me you spent the last three years weirdly obsessed with Kageyama – I still remember the time you made us play him on a dumb whim, you know – and now you’re at his beck and call? Are you okay? What the hell is wrong with you?”
“I’m— I’m not at his beck and call! I said no last week. It’s… It’s like you said. I get bored easily. I saw him at the park a couple weeks after they played Nationals and called him a perfect little tyrant, and he pestered me into spending time with him after,” Tooru says. “I’m not a monster, Iwa-chan. If he wants the company of his cool, handsome ex-upperclassman that badly, who am I to begrudge him?”
Or: Oikawa doesn't know why Kageyama keeps asking to meet him on Saturdays. He also doesn't know why he keeps saying yes.

Summary
Even if Kei never summons the courage to be honest with him about how he feels, if he never cares for him the way he’s always cared for him, Yamaguchi likes him. Yamaguchi will stay for the rest of his life.
But Yamaguchi has been around for Kei’s entire life until now. He was so cute smiling around his beer that Kei let him get this drunk.
He deserves more than that.
Or: Two times in Tsukishima's life that he realizes what Yamaguchi is to him.

“Why are you reading about tides?”
“For… school. Extra credit,” Tadashi forces out, and Tsukishima looks at him like he has seven heads.
“We go to school together,” Tsukishima helpfully reminds him. “We’re in the same class. Kiryu-sensei lectured us on how we need to study harder instead of begging for extra credit last week.”
“Ah… um. It’s… personal,” Tadashi says, and it isn’t a lie enough that his voice doesn’t sound weird when he says it. But Tsukishima doesn’t seem to notice.
“The reason you’re reading—” His eyes briefly flicker to Tadashi’s phone screen. “—SciJinks dot gov article ‘What causes tides?’ is personal?”
Or: Yamaguchi's watching an awful thriller about climate change at Tsukishima's house when he learns about the relationship between the moon and the ocean. He thinks to himself that it reminds him of the relationship between him and his best friend, and doesn't let the thought go for the next straight week.
