"…Please." Tachyon's voice was small, frail. "…I don't want to harm you."
Cafe's hands reach through her mop of hair to cup her cheeks. Tachyon jumps slightly as their skin touches, but she allows Cafe to lift her head up.
Their eyes meet, determined gold and tense red.
"You won't." Cafe breathed. Her thumbs began to rub comforting circles on Tachyon's cheeks. Tachyon's pupils were blown wide at this point, completely taking over her red iris as she continues to stare at her.
"…And what if I do?" Tachyon asks quietly.
"You won't." Cafe promises.

It was estrus season, or "mating season", at Tracen Academy. The founders of this esteemed academy created a set of rules to keep their students safe. Umas who experience ruts must take their suppressants. If they run out of them, summon a nurse from the infirmary immediately. Absolutely no fighting in general… etc.
But, of course, the rule book was long. Too long for anyone to actually care about. And the founders knew that their students wouldn't remember them. So, instead of having their umas remember the entire set, they had their students abide the most significant rule of all:
No mating on campus.
