Summary
Dry grass crunches beneath its dragging feet. The daylight glints off the tall buildings past where the grass and trees end. Tremors run down its left arm, as it always has. Has it? It isn’t sure. It can’t remember any time that it hasn’t. Yet sometimes it looks down at itself and feels something like confusion or shock, like it was expecting something else. Why would that happen if this is how it’s always been?
Something else moves in the near distance and it stops in its tracks.Series

Summary
Worn wood pressed into the calloused skin of his hands. Sweat and blood ran in rivulets down his torso, shirt already saturated through. The sun gleamed high in the sky unobstructed. With one last push, he and five others finished raising the anchor.
Yunho nearly dropped to the deck in a sudden rush of exhaustion. The cuts littering his body stung and his muscles felt weak. This raid was a harsh one, but unfortunately a very necessary one. They’d gone too long without anything for income and the entire crew was suffering for it. None of them were faring too well anymore, even the captain.
He sat down where he stood. Deep and fast breaths passed his lips. If he didn’t think his back would kill him for it, he’d be sorely tempted to just lie down and fall asleep right there. The sun baked his skin through the meager cover of fabric. His feet throbbed in his boots. He barely heard when someone else sat next to him and only opened his eyes to look when they nudged his leg with their own.Series

Summary
Yeosang looks up from his essay as his owl lands in front of him. In a mess of wind-blown, dark brown feathers, Maehwa flicks her wings and hoots softly, alerting him to the mail she carries. His heart speeds up minutely and a small grin lights up his face when he realizes the letter clutched in her claws is a tell-tale lavender color.
Neat but utilitarian handwriting nearly fills the entire page. He’d feel shy saying it out loud, but he’s always anticipated these letters more than anything else, especially over the last few years.
Before he can even read the first line, however, someone crashes into the seat next to him on the bench.
“Ooh, how’s your long-distance beau?”
Heat rushes to his face and he hurries to put the letter away as Wooyoung jerks to try and take it. Wandlessly but inconspicuously, he zaps Wooyoung’s hand with a very mild stinging hex.
"We're not dating, Wooyoung."
“Sure, so you say.”Series

Summary
Seonghwa sits at the counter of this seedy, underhanded bar nursing his second drink of the night. The only reasons he’s ever at a bar are to meet with a client under a thin veneer of propriety or to carry out a mark.
Right now, all of his attention is on the one person who’s always been in step with him. Dyed-light hair free and floating. Shoulders artfully curved and intentionally alluring. Long legs leaning up against the bar with at least two knives strapped beneath those pants. Deceptively friendly smile hiding a deadly purpose.
As they catch each other’s glinting eyes in the dim haze of the bar, Seonghwa feels his insides burn as though he’d downed a shot.Series

Summary
With it being the end of fall, the amount of customers they get on the daily is dropping off. Jongho doesn’t really mind it, honestly, though it can get pretty boring. He tends to fill a lot of the time with schoolwork in the winter. But since Christmas has yet to pass, there’s still a decent enough stream of customers for him.
So goes the usual day of anyone working retail in New York City.
It’s not a bad gig, overall, but it’s retail in the city, so.
As such, it only makes him pause for five seconds more than average when the bell above the door chimes to indicate someone entering and he looks up to see an average-sized person dressed in what looks to be a hooded cloak made up of seven separate old ladies’ drapes.Series

Summary
Zhou Zishu is ready to be done with Tian Chuang. He's ready for his seventh nail, and ready to wander before facing his eighty one brothers with a bowed head in the afterlife. He will do this after, apparently, one last mission that's simply too intriguing to pass up.
The Ghost Valley has sent a letter past its borders, asking to attend the Heroes Conference of the Five Lakes Alliance. The Five Lakes Alliance, unbelievably, has accepted. Both no doubt have hidden intentions, and Prince Jin wants eyes and ears on the scene. Zhou Zishu can't quite bring himself to deny his own ravenous curiosity enough not to accept.
The stunning beauty that shows up with the girls of the Department of the Unfaithful, the one who introduces himself as Wen Kexing, is universally assumed to be a favorite plaything of the yet unseen Ghost Valley Master. His beauty and charm may be enough to captivate all the others into underestimating him, but Zhou Zishu knows a killer's eyes when he sees one. Wen Kexing is a puzzle he'd like to figure out, and Zishu himself can't say he isn't also captivated by dark eyes and a smile that wouldn't be out of place with blood in its teeth.

Bookmarker's Notes
A work of art
So exquisitely written and paced, it felt like 50 chapters just flew by. I loved the plot -- it really makes me wish this could be expanded into a heftier novel's length (I would totally buy and read that book)! I want this to be made into a book so thick I could maul a man with it lol
Beautiful, outstanding, wonderful, amazing. I wanted to start re-reading this before I even finished it.

Summary
“If you’re going to get married,” Jiang Cheng ground out, “then you’re going to damn well get married at Lotus Pier.”
Wei Wuxian blinked once. Again. Then: “what?”
Or: the one with sibling reconciliation, brother-in-laws from hell, and Jiang Cheng trying to sort through his feelings while acknowledging them as little as possible.

I cried.
It's heartbreakingly wonderful to read something like this from Jiang Cheng's POV, since he's probably the most emotionally constipated character I've met in my life.

Summary
“A weapon is not the same as a spouse, even if that weapon is powerful.” The words had barely left Wei Wuxian’s lips when he found himself slammed against the trunk of the nearest tree, Lan Wangji’s hands gripping painfully tight around his shoulders, practically lifting him from the ground.
“Wei Ying is not a weapon!” Lan Wangji bit out.
Wei Wuxian had said many things that had angered the illustrious Second Jade in the past. When he had been in Cloud Recesses as a youth, it had been Wei Wuxian’s favorite hobby. But he realized had never managed to truly enrage Lan Wangji with anything he had said until this moment.
