You have a bad habit of mistaking temporary things for permanent ones.
A bad habit becomes something you can’t stop reaching for. A person becomes a place to put everything you don’t know what to do with. You call it comfort when it’s really just another kind of addiction.
Then you go to college.
You have freedom, your childhood home waiting for you, money you don’t know how to spend, and no idea what to do with a life that was supposed to feel like yours.
The past doesn’t disappear because you stop saying its name. Neither do the people who only ever knew how to find you when you were trying to be someone else.
