“It must be hard,” Morgana said.
“What’s that?” Gwen asked, already closed off, already on alert.
“Hiding your feelings for him.”
“I’m not sure what you mean,” Gwen said, not turning around. She had never been a good liar, not to Morgana anyway. They knew each other too well, too thoroughly.
“It’s not fair,” Morgana said.
“It’s the way the world is,” Gwen said softly, and it was the gentlest she’d been with Morgana in ages.
“I mean,” Morgana said, and swallowed again. It shouldn’t be this hard.
“Morgana?”
“I loved you first.”
