Summary
Josh looks at the sweatshirt, nostalgia threatening to overwhelm him. Jalen used to walk around their apartment back at Nova wearing this thing, before it was so threadbare, and it drove Josh crazy then too. Back when Jalen was even smaller, not so filled out, and it made Josh think of girlfriends always stealing his clothes.
“Josh,” Jalen says, voice low, and when Josh turns to him his breath catches at the knowing look in Jalen’s eyes.
“You always pick this one,” he says, a little off-beat, still half living in the memories of nearly a decade ago.
“‘S my favorite,” he admits, and it sounds like he’s saying something else. Josh swallows hard.

Summary
Jalen has barely gotten himself into captain mode when he sees that it’s Josh at his hotel door, paler than usual with huge eyes on his ashen face, barely dressed as if he just threw on the first pair of pants he could find and booked it over to him. His sweatpants are inside out.
“Jalen,” he says, and his voice fractures near the end of the word in a way that has Jalen tugging Josh inside and closing the door behind them.
“Josh—” he starts.
“What if OG hadn’t made the shot?” he asks, not meeting Jalen’s eyes. “What if—”

Summary
“You did good, baby,” Josh tells him, low and secret, just for the two of them in their little world under Jalen’s towel. “You did it, JB. We did it. All this is for you.”
Jalen’s eyes flicker up, huge and wet and god, he forgets during playoff season how much Jalen hides himself, how much Jalen feels, his eyes giving everything away every time. Josh has no poker face—what you see is what you get when you look at him. Jalen does, but only because he feels so hard and so deep it cracks him open every time.
After the win, Josh and Jalen try to carve out the time to celebrate. Josh does some self reflecting. Jalen just wants to feel real.
