She’s aware of small bugs, dancing in those final rays, and the cool breeze on the skin of her arms, bared by an oversize t-shirt under the coveralls Kelly found in her stuff when they went back to scavenge at Hilltop and brought back for her. The coveralls she came back from the Caravan with, cut off and exposing her legs, pricking now with goosebumps. The ground under her feet is soft, the grass tickles, dirt gives under her toes when she curls them, trying not to waver as she stands. The breeze drags loose curls against her face. Time is so slow. So still. She’s known quiet all her life, but nothing like this moment."
