Summary
Eddie thinks he should be mad that Chris chose not to interview him for his “Most Influential Adult in Your Life” assignment at school. You’d think raising a kid for 14 years would easily grant him that title – all the video game purchases and packed lunches, the long nights and the roof over their heads should have made him a shoo-in.
He should be pissed. Honestly, how embarrassing is it, that his own son wouldn’t consider his dad the most influential person in his life? But Eddie just cannot find it in himself to care, because Chris has chosen his sunshine of a best friend, Evan Buckley – his Buck – to wear that crown.

Summary
“Do you ever feel… feel like you’re empty?” He pauses, watching for a reaction from Buck, but he doesn’t get one. “Like, all you need, all you want is to be as close to one person as you possibly can? Like that’s the only thing that could fill you. Fix you.”
It’s too revealing. Any second, Buck is going to laugh in his face or awkwardly scoot back. He’ll take his beautiful hand away and pack a bag and go stay at Maddie’s for the night. Then slowly, so slowly that if Eddie were normal he probably wouldn’t notice it, Buck will start to pull away from him.
He waits. He waits for his future.
“Yes. Always.” Is what spills out of Buck’s mouth instead.
or
Eddie finally asks for what he wants.

Summary
Scotland. Eddie’s heard that Scotland is great. He can live in the countryside, maybe in one of those castles older than sliced bread, haunting the cobblestone halls to remind visiting tourists of the importance of checking what picture you’ve selected when texting, lest you accidentally send a nude to your best friend.
It’s a big problem, he’s heard. In Scotland. That’s why he has to go there.
No other reason.
Or: Eddie Diaz and the mortifying ordeal of sending your best friend an accidental dick pic.

Summary
“You can’t tell me I didn’t pick you,” Eddie says, voice shaking, “when you never put yourself on the table to begin with.”
Buck just looks at him—tired, concussed, past pretending.
“Eddie, I’ve been on the table for years. Jesus Christ—I built the damn table. I sanded it, stained it, set a fucking place for you at it. I waited for you to sit down. Do you know what it does to a person to love a life they're not actually part of? To be allowed everywhere but chosen nowhere?”
Or, a collapsing stairwell, years of swallowed feelings, and a fight that finally forces the words out.
