This was the only human - predominantly human, he amended, he had seen in years. Maybe sort of an asshole, he had used him as a shield, but he hadn't seemed to be trying to hurt him.

“I’m serious.”
Grace can’t help himself.
“Nice to meet you, Serious. I’m Dr. Ryland Grace. Um- but everyone around here calls me Grace."
Silence.
“That’s your cue to tell me your name,” he notes.
The continued silence is deafening. Wide shoulders heave with heavy breath, that dark gaze tightening at Grace’s further insistence. Greasy, inky hair falls around his face, unruly tendrils shielding scarred skin from the outside.

Halfway back to Erid, the Hail Mary receives her third and final passenger.
