“Breaking News!”
The newscast showed footage of three shaky figures emerging from a burning building. One was clutching a small child.
“A raid linked to the infamous Shie Hissaika that occurred tonight has uncovered the roots of a possible human trafficking operation led by a group that call themselves “Orochi”. Police claim this operation may reopen several missing persons investigations, though details are yet to be revealed.”
Suddenly, chaos broke out on the screen behind the reporter. Through the billowing smoke, one of the figures could be seen making a mad dash past the paramedics.
“This just in! We’re being told–”
The screen turned off with a click.
Shota clutched the remote with soot-stained fingertips and sank into the sofa beside his husband. He still smelled like smoke, Yamada noted.
“He got away.” Shota mumbled, exhaustions seeming to seep through every fibre of his being.
“Aw, Sho,” Yamada tried, “It’s not the end of the world. I’m sure you–”
“He got away,” His husband cut him off again, “and he took the kid with him.”
…
“Shit.”

“I had scoliosis,” Peter whispered, not looking away from where they’d heard the metal snap. He had gone pale. Bucky was sure he was a few shades lighter, himself. “That’s… that’s what I was gonna say before."
“Yeah?” Bucky asked. He loosened his grip on Peter’s shoulder, but didn’t take his hand away.
“My back still hurts sometimes,” Peter explained quietly. “But that might be because of the swinging. Hard to find a strong enough chiropractor to crack it, you know? Maybe… maybe two thousand tons of concrete would do it, though.” Bucky leveled his gaze at the kid. Peter looked back at him, swallowing hard.
“Let’s call that Plan B, okay?” Bucky suggested.
“Yeah, okay,” Peter mumbled.

Or, Peter gets caught in the collapse of a parking garage with a (mildly) concussed Bucky Barnes, and has a nice get-to-know-you sesh with our favorite super soldier while waiting for Tony to find a safe way get them out. Super chill, right? Everything's fine. Oh- and he's been impaled by two rods of rebar and can't move without risking bleeding out. That... complicates things.

Summary
The apartment was smaller than the word apartment deserved.
Calling it a box would have been more honest. Four walls, a ceiling low enough that Peter felt like he’d bang his head trying to stand up from unpacking, and a window that technically opened but jammed half the time. The place smelled faintly of mildew, maybe because of the carpet - or maybe because this whole building had given up on life a few decades ago and was just waiting for someone merciful to bulldoze it.
He told himself it was fine. He told himself worse things had happened. Which, technically, was true.
That didn’t make him feel any better.
