Summary
(ENDGAME SPOILERS. BUT I'M CHANGING THINGS.)
Tony worries his brain is misfiring, transporting him across time and space in one final insane journey. He swallows hard, and he hears those garbled voices again. He can’t make out words, or tone, or who the hell is talking, but somebody definitely is, and it sounds strangely like they’re underwater. Or he is.
He grits his teeth and turns around, and before he can even begin to trudge over towards Peter’s room, he’s stopped in his tracks.
By a door. In the middle. Of the living room. Straight up and down like a monolith, just beside the glass coffee table.
Tony chews on his lower lip and stares at it. “Well that’s new,” he says, still rooted to the spot.

Summary
Tony sits back, and his attention is back on Peter now, and he’s giving him that same look he’s been sending his way for days. “Did you sleep in class? In History? Because May and I can teach you history just fine. We’ve got books. And brains. And memories.”
Peter snorts, and feels a little sad at the same time. “Nah,” he says, scooting down in his seat. “I didn’t sleep.”
Tony hums and Peter can hear the anxiety in it, no matter how he tries to mask it.
“It’s fine,” Peter says again, chewing on the inside of his cheek. That’s gonna be a new mantra, apparently, because he keeps saying it without even meaning to. Tony gives him a long look, and finally starts driving out of there. Peter stares at him, and every blink is like the flick of a flame against his skin. Why does not sleeping hurt? He should just pass out, at this rate. That’s how these things should work.

Peter is sitting beside Tony in the back of Happy’s car. And of course, he’s bleeding, and he has a massive concussion, and he’s got his arms crossed over his chest and he’s being petulant and when did Tony become a father, again? He doesn’t remember when he officially signed up for this. Was it the moment he walked into Peter’s apartment to introduce himself? Was it the first time Peter almost died? When? When?
“I can be mad at you. I am mad at you.”
Peter scoffs angrily, and Tony tries not to look at him.

He writes things down. He’s got a little red Spider-Man journal that Ned literally made for him and he’s also using his phone calendar and he sets alarms and he makes timelines for himself and he doesn’t let setbacks destroy him, even though he’s tempted to, sometimes. Even though that nagging sensation is still there, still ready to nag, still ready to say you’re done.
He’s not done. He’s not done.
He’s been back in the suit for about a month now.
And tomorrow is Tony’s birthday.
It’s been a year.
It’s been a year since that day, since the incident. The incident born of the initial incident.

“Pete, what’s happening—” He steps towards him, but Peter’s movements are scattered now and too fast.
“Tony, I—I, I, I can’t—”
Sam and Bucky rush over too, their feet hitting the ground hard.
“What’s going on—”
“He see a bug or something—”
But it isn’t funny and it isn’t a joke and Tony can tell that immediately, and he watches, he’s watching as Peter’s eyes go cloudy, he’s watching as the horror overtakes Peter’s expression and mangles it.
