“Oh.” A thread of unease curled through Ilya. “I hadn’t thought about it.”
Shane said, “So you’re planning to—leave? After lunch?”
“I really didn’t think about it.”
If he had thought, he would have known that Shane wanted him to stay. That he could either plan to go along with that, or not. So he hadn’t thought about it.
Shane was upset; he really couldn’t hide when he was upset.
“Is it only okay when you do it?”
“When I do what?”
“I don’t know, everything?” Shane shrugged. “Staying over, fucking other people, it’s all fine if it’s your idea, right?”
“Whoa,” Ilya said. His heart was pounding furiously. “Fucking other people, what?”

Summary
It's 2018 and everything has been going right for Yuna Hollander. She has her family, her career, and Shane, well Shane seems the happiest he's ever been. She knows her son is keeping secrets from her, but she also knows that with Shane, she's just going to have to wait it out for when he's ready to speak up. But then she gets a phone call from the Ottawa Centaurs telling her that their new staring center, Ilya Rozenov is in the hospital with a concussion, and that she, of all people, is listed as his emergency contact.
(tldr) alternative timeline where Shane and Ilya do not get caught by David in 2017. And for an entire year Shane hasn't been able to come out to his parents. Ilya gets a concussion, and Yuna gets a call.
