Summary
"Don't let him die, Emery." It's Jack's voice, filtering into Robby's half-awareness. Something warm anchors him by one hand to the world.
A scoff. "As if I would." Then, softer, "I've got him, Jack."
"You better." The warmth encompassing his hand becomes intense for a moment with a press of lips, and then it slips away, and then everything slips away.
When he wakes, he's terrified.
After witnessing a violent attack during which he is also injured, Robby struggles with a paralyzing fear of what it means to get a second chance.

Oh. Jack is pissed. Robby is almost relieved. This has been a long time coming. He only realizes now, in the moment, that he's been waiting for Jack to flip on him since he first heard his voice behind him in some podunk midwest ED. Since before that, even. Since the phone call.
He hadn't meant to call Jack and he only remembers bits and pieces. "I called an ambulance," he'd said, and, "I'm sorry, Jack. I'm sorry if I die!" He remembers crying. Remembers Jack telling him to hang in there, he was doing great, telling him don't you dare when he went quiet. He's a doctor and he knows this isn't how it works, and yet he's pretty sure he held himself to the world by the sheer force of Jack's will on the other end of that call.
So, yes. Jack is entitled to be pissed. Robby put him in a hell of a position.

Summary
Some people might call it a sixth sense, but Jack Abbot is a doctor, so when he walks into the ED already feeling the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end, he knows it’s not magic, it’s his amygdala reading infinitesimal changes in the room. He isn’t conscious of it, exactly. But he’s not not conscious of it, either. His subconscious brain is processing minute changes in the environment, in the energy around him, in voice tone and volume, in motion and stillness. Patterns, and the changes therein. His therapist calls it hypervigilance, a trauma response. Jack calls it paying attention.
And okay, maybe it overreacts sometimes, this hypervigilance, but it's rarely wrong outright. So when he gets that feeling of something bad about to go down, Jack turns toward the source without consciously deciding to.
His eyes meet Robby's across the ED, and his entire body goes cold.
"Lena, call security," he says, the low whip-crack of his voice cutting through the conversation at the desk. "Get them here quiet. And call the police."

"You don't have to --"
"I know I don't." But Sherlock leaves anyway, spurred by equal parts anger and shame. He promises to be back in 30 minutes with the forgotten milk for Rosie's evening meal.
He does not return.
Later, John will think of that last glimpse of Sherlock's face, the tired hurt, the start of tears. He will think that maybe Sherlock has simply decided to be done with this, to be done with him.
Still, maybe he'd better call Greg, see if anyone's caught a glimpse of the man. Just in case.
Across town, Sherlock plots escape but hopes for rescue, trapped in a situation that he cannot talk his way out of.

“I’m- I can’t convince myself to commit to a longer stay,” Robby admits, frustrated by it. “It’d be better for actually getting somewhere with antidepressants, I know, but I feel like once I take away the work and the bike and everything else I do… there’s a clock on how long I can be naked like that. When it runs out, if I’m not back on the right side, I’ll get stuck as nothing, forever.” Robby drops his face into his hand. “Why does this sound like The Little Mermaid?” he moans.
“Is this the kind of place where they throw a black bag over your head and smash your SIM card, or can I still talk to you?” Jack asks.
