Piper's words rang in Jason’s ears and his heart stuttered. He let out a defeated sigh. “Yes.”
“¡Uno más!” Leo cackled, then turned back to his project.

Piper hummed, but didn’t say anything, so Leo figured he was allowed to start working again. That illusion was quickly broken when she giggled quietly. “So, how does it feel to be Jason Grace’s manic pixie dream girl?”
Leo’s pencil snapped between his fingers and he slowly turned around to stare at her. “Run that by me one more time, compadre?”
“You’re Jason’s manic pixie dream girl,” Piper insisted, popping another one of Leo’s M&Ms in her mouth. Her eye contact never even faltered. “You said it yourself. He’s changed a lot. He’s way less uptight, and he’s happier now. You did that.”
Leo continued to stare. “You are categorically insane.”

When Jason, Leo's best friend and roommate of seven years, announced that his high school ex-girlfriend was moving to town, Leo wasn't expecting to be suddenly reunited with his long-lost stepsister slash childhood best friend. He definitely wasn't expecting her to stick her nose into his and Jason's (entirely platonic, fuck RIGHT off, Piper) relationship. But, hey, worse things have happened. Probably.

“Are you okay?” Leo asked gently. She nodded, careful to keep her sight set on one point above Leo’s shoulder in order to avoid getting dizzy again. Leo looked even less convinced than before. “You don’t look too good. C’mere. You can chill out in here with me and we’ll–”
“No,” she interrupted sharply, taking a step back from him. “Look, I’m fine. I told you, I’m just tired. You and Jason go have fun on your date, okay?”
“What? No, are you–”
“I told you I’m fine,” she insisted, her tone turning a little snappish. She turned to make her retreat back down the hall, but before she could go anywhere, she felt overly-warm fingers wrap around her wrist. She looked over her shoulder to see Leo frowning down at their connected hands in shocked confusion, and she snatched her wrist back before he could do some weird fire power thing and deduce her temperature down to the tenth decimal or something. “Bye, Leo. Have fun with Jason.”
Before he could say another word, she fled.

Piper got sick every summer because the world hated her. Fortunately, she's on a boat with her best friends in the world. Unfortunately, said friends are busy.
