Summary
Dense footfalls settle beside him as their satchel swings to meet his peripheral. Gabriel finally pauses his work, allowing the fabric and needle to rest in his lap mid-stitch, then shifts his gaze from the little bag up to its owner's optic. V1's already begun digging through its open flap, shifting around what sounded like some heavy-ish objects made from plastic or... related, clinking against their right hand's protective plating, then procures a spaghetti-mess of dark straps and light-catching metal to tempt his scrutiny.
"Oh! Let's see..."
Gabriel accepts the tangle, almost immediately setting to work to try and make heads or tails of it. Following a few moments of shaking the thing out to the tune of tingy metal-against-metal, looping in parts on each other and rotating it some, he's met with a loose shape which vaguely resembles--
"...Some kind of belt?"

Summary
On New Year's Eve of 2025, Avery has a maybe-fake experience that changes his life. With no way to figure out who Derek is— was— if he was even real, or if they actually saved the world, Avery tries to leave it behind. But he's haunted by what he saw, and what he failed to do, in that Minecraft world as the clock ticked into the New Year.
And then, just as he thinks maybe he can finally move on, Derek finds him. He's alive, and mostly intact, and Avery allows the relief and joy of seeing his friend in real life to overshadow the cracks creeping through Derek's even-keeled facade. As they draw closer, however, Avery finds it harder and harder to ignore— until he realizes that maybe the world isn't as saved as he thought it was. -

Player said yes. Well, more specifically, yeah, okay, and it was so perfectly stupid and nonchalant and by god he needed that voice to say much more. His best friend that he'd been obsessing over for who knows how long was finally here in front of him— the friend who brushed him aside and seemed to largely dislike him. Right here. Looking just as horribly ill-composed and horny and overwhelmed as he is and . And oh god this was actually happening.
After several invitations to hang out in person, Player finally relents and agrees to meet Captain for coffee. As it turns out, they both can't feign normality long enough to simply share drinks together.
