But he did wonder if anyone else was watching the way that Whizzer’s fingers grasped the ball, the way he’d absentmindedly lick his thumb before he’d knock down three batters in a row, or the way he took a moment to run his hands through his hair after he incidentally walked a batter. The dirt seemed to roll right off of him.

Marvin and Whizzer are on rival professional baseball teams. A strained relationship. Heteronormative pressure. The slow burn of the century. Mediocre sex and good sex. If they get too intertwined - will they ruin it all?
* This is a rewrite of a story I wrote eight (8) years ago called "Playing Easy." There were a lot of things I feel could be expanded upon and clarified. Also I wrote it eight years ago. *

“...Hello?”
Whizzer’s voice was low and raspy, like he hadn’t been awake but not quite asleep either. Like he had been up late. With somebody, or alone. Up late, breathless. Still, he sounded alert. Marvin already felt stupid.
“Hi. It’s, uh, it’s Marvin.” Do you remember? The fag from the game.
“Oh.” Whizzer said, and Marvin could hear the smile already blooming on the other end of the line. “I figured. You know, not many people call me this time of the night unless they’re horny or dying.” Marvin didn’t answer right away. He felt the scotch in his hand and the heat crawling up his neck. His whole body reacted. “Which one are you?”Well, the situation’s this: it’s 1978 and Marvin takes Jason out to a baseball game. He’s incredibly bored until one Whizzer Brown happens to sit next to him. It’s a terrible place for this and even worse timing, but Marvin always has a hard time saying no to himself.
