Even without this needless “party” that the Timekeeper had him convince Charon to join, Eberhard finds his actions revolving around the Awakened that now dressed as Death. All he has to do around him is be calm, be attentive, and tend to Charon’s every need— nevermind his own.

Summary
The purpose of a vessel is to contain something; memories, reminisces, thoughts- both wanted and unwanted.
Charon exists to honor Paul's legacy, and that includes trying to be him for someone that Paul once longed for. Yet like all imitations, it is subpar, inefficient, and will never be close to the original.
It will never be close enough for Eberhard.
