Summary
Stede Bonnet boards a flight to Honolulu for one last family holiday before he and Mary quietly end their marriage. Instead, a hijacking leaves both pilots dead, armed men outside the locked cockpit door, and Stede alone at the controls of a Boeing 737 he has no idea how to fly.
Hundreds of miles away, air traffic controller Ed Teach becomes the only voice Stede can trust. With more than a hundred lives depending on them, Ed must talk him through turning, descending and landing it—one switch, one breath and one increasingly intimate radio conversation at a time.
Somewhere between the Pacific and the runway, terror becomes trust, trust becomes intimacy, and the man guiding Stede home begins to sound like someone he cannot bear to lose.

Ed watches. Feels the warmth of Stede’s touch and the warmth of the rum, feels the featherlight pass of Stede’s thumb over his pulse.
“Of course,” Stede says, and Ed looks up to see a flicker of a naughty schoolboy smirk sweep across his features, “there is one particular downside to taking it slow."
And the fucking dork waggles his eyebrows. Awful. Just appalling.
It doesn’t not work for Ed.

"It's just… well, it's rather hard to believe, isn't it?" Stede says.
"What, that Thomas and Maria are snogging already after he left her behind? It's a romance novel, Stede. It's not supposed to be realistic. You've gotta suspend your disbelief a bit, man."
"No, it's not that. It's just… Kissing. All of the romance novels make it out to be this huge, world-changing, earth-shattering experience. And it's just a bit silly, is all."
Ed swallows. "I dunno. It can feel really nice, y'know. With the right person."
Or, Stede confesses that he's never really seen the appeal of kissing before. What is a good co-captain to do but offer his own lips for the taking?

(OR: After the gravy basket, Ed is terrified of falling asleep. It's a fear that stays close by in the weeks that follow. A series of missing scenes from S2, BIG TIME angst with a happy, smutty ending. Because Ed deserves to be happy)
