Summary
Beca should’ve known better than to agree to anything Stacie suggested at a party.
It starts innocently enough—music too loud, cups already half-forgotten on every surface, the Bellas piled into a corner like they always are. Someone—probably Stacie Conrad—gets bored, which is always dangerous.
“We should all take the Rice Purity Test,” she announces, like it’s a completely normal group activity.
There’s immediate chaos. Aubrey protests. Fat Amy encourages it. Cynthia Rose is already grabbing someone’s phone. And somehow—because her life is a series of deeply questionable decisions—Beca ends up being the one to pull it up.
“Fine,” she mutters, thumb already scrolling. “I’ll take it. But I’m not reading my answers out loud.”
“No fun!” Stacie whines.
Beca ignores her, leaning back against the arm of the couch, phone angled toward herself. The questions start easy, dumb, whatever. She breezes through them, expression flat, occasionally huffing under her breath.
She doesn’t notice when Chloe drifts closer. Or when that bright, curious gaze drops to her screen. Or how long it stays there.

Summary
The bedroom smells faintly like vanilla body spray and the burnt-sweet scent of the curling iron Stacie left plugged in too long.
Late afternoon light filters through the thin blinds, cutting the room into pale gold stripes that fall across Chloe’s bare shoulders. The air is warm—the radiator always runs a little too hot in this part of the building—and Chloe can feel a bead of sweat forming at the base of her neck despite the fact that she’s barely wearing anything.
She shifts her weight on the rug.
“Stop moving,” Stacie says from behind her phone. “You look like a nervous flamingo.”
“I’m not a flamingo,” Chloe protests, though her voice comes out softer than she intends.
“Then stop doing the flamingo leg thing.”
Chloe glances down. Sure enough, one knee has bent inward slightly, her toes curling against the carpet like she’s trying to make herself smaller. She exhales slowly and forces her foot flat again. The carpet scratches against her bare skin. The room suddenly feels very, very exposed.
Stacie lowers the phone a little and tilts her head. “Okay, serious question,” she says. “Why are you acting like I just asked you to commit tax fraud?”
