There was no defensible reason for him to know that. It was the version Arvid played from his phone when he could not sleep, the opening notes quiet enough that Liam rarely woke before Arvid had already lowered the volume. Sometimes, in the dark, Liam would shift closer without opening his eyes. Once, after a particularly bad race, he had reached across the sheets and closed his hand loosely around Arvid’s wrist, asking him not to turn it off yet.
Arvid and Liam have managed to keep their relationship secret through careful timing, locked hotel-room doors and the convenient assumption that any affection between teammates is manufactured for social media.Then VCARB sits them beneath several unforgiving lights, hands them a pair of whiteboards and asks them to prove how well they know each other.
All they have to do is get a few answers wrong.
Unfortunately, Liam knows which live recording Arvid plays when he cannot sleep, Arvid knows exactly who Liam calls after a terrible race, and neither of them is nearly as convincing as they think.

“He was really good, okay. And he was a really nice kid too,” Will reasoned.
“Celebrini is one for two then.”

Leno mocks Will about his relationship with Mack, not knowing the two Sharks are actually dating, and Will checks him for his homophobia. They finally talk about how things after their year at BC together went, and more truths are revealed as the conversation evolves.

Summary
Four times Will Smith acts like Macklin Celebrini's boyfriend + one time he actually is.
Macklin rubs the sleep from his eyes and is immediately hit with the feeling that he took another elbow to the face. His first coherent thought is that, yeah, his face still hurts. His second thought is that his pillow is weirdly warm. And also breathing. His third thought is, oh.
"You're here," he mumbles into what turns out to be the place between Will's shoulder and neck. "You're still here."
Will's breath hitches as he stirs awake at the sound and feeling of Mack speaking. "Yeah, I'm here." He squeezes his arms a little tighter around the boy, careful not to jostle his position too much. "Where else would I be, superstar?"
Or Macklin gets his wisdom teeth removed and is still very much Yaplin Celebrini under the influence of pain medication. What could possibly go wrong with that?
