Jindřich s Ptáčkem tráví dlouhé dny babího léta poflakováním se na kutnohorsku, když jednoho dne doručí posel pozvání na hon pořádaný Ptáčkovým přítelem z dětství. Jan s Jindrou se tak ocitají na hradě Ronovci - místě ukrytém hluboko v lesích - kde je všechno najednou jiné.
Zatímco se Jan prohání po lesích a okouzluje přítomné dámy i pány, Jindra postupně odkrývá tajemství, které halí Ronovec jako pavučina. A oba se přitom potýkají s tím, jak jejich (stále nový, stále křehký) vztah vyvažovat proti povinnostem a očekávání, které se pojí s jejich postavením.
Co začalo jako šlechtická kratochvíle se rychle změní v příběh plný lovu, zrady, poezie, spiknutí a oddanosti.
