The bioluminescence had illuminated past her waist, where as far as Kyujin knew, people had legs.
This person did not have legs. Below the waist, she shimmered green and silver and impossible, a long length of something scaled and strong trailing into the glow, fanning to hold her steady in the water. And Kyujin’s brain refused to even try identifying it.
“What,” said Kyujin.
“What yourself,” said the mermaid, and she snatched Kyujin's lunchbox off the dock, and was gone.
