Summary
Ava would apologize but she’s not sorry at all: Beatrice is here, and Ava is tipsy, and the night is going great despite the fact that has perhaps possibly dug herself into a tiny financial hole betting on eight ball skills that she absolutely does not have.

Summary
“I’ll teach you how to drive,” Beatrice mumbles. Exhaustion drags her vowels out more than usual, softer and messier than usual, and Ava wants to touch her, wants to fix the loose strand of hair over her temple, wants to press her fingertips to the freckles she knows are there even if the faint light hides them. “If you want."
“Gonna hold you to that one, Bea,” Ava says instead. It earns her a half a smile, sleepy and unguarded, even as Beatrice’s eyes stay closed, and Ava smiles for the first time since they were in the Vatican.

Summary
“Trust Beatrice,” Mary had said.
That rings in the back of Ava’s head when she lies to Beatrice’s face, says "I’m fine," says "I know what I have to do," tells her nothing of what exactly that’ll be.
Warrior Nuns don't survive, Ava knows that much, and even if that's going to be her own fate, too, she’s not going to put that weight on Beatrice’s shoulders. The night after she c'ommunes with Reya and finally understands, she lies and says "Everything’s okay. This is where the Ark is." The next day she lies and says "He split off to find the Ark. Everything's okay." She lies and lies her way to victory, until Beatrice (and Yasmine by proxy) is led safely away from where the real battle will begin.
One of the last things Mary had said to her was, “Trust Beatrice,” but Ava thinks Mary would understand this particular deception.
--
Or:
Through Switzerland and through the portal and through whatever comes after, Ava learns Beatrice. Learns to love her, to trust her, to live with her.
Learns from her, too.

Summary
Sometimes you just need some late-night yearning. What better time to do it than in moonlight, where vulnerabilities and words usually left unspoken come out?
Ava and Beatrice have some nighttime encounters. Everything is softer then, when they're half-hidden in shadow, no longer scrutinized by the sun blazing down on high. Stares and touches can linger. Words gain deeper meaning, and they both start to realize that what's between them is a little more than friendly.
