"clambering off stage after the lights had cut out for the final time that night was easier than most big shows they had done in the past. julian could feel his skin thrumming with excitement, like he was young and spry again, playing to gradually growing audiences, not a divorcee pushing 50 who could barely stand hitting those high notes anymore ... however tired he was, though, was tucked away in the back of his mind in favor of turning to admire his favorite smiley drummer, who he usually lagged behind for ... but this time, fab didn't look too hot. his face was scrunched a bit, and he visibly winced a time or two as he hobbled down those stairs and made his way towards julian."
fab has a totally fucked back from the past 25-ish years of drumming his heart out using his entire damn body. julian feels too damn guilty and seeks to remedy it, even if just temporarily.

Her face was right next to his, and had she not had to stretch up onto her tip-toes to reach him, he might’ve mistaken one for the other.
That night, he slept with her for the first time. A month later, Fab and Albert were teasing him about her endlessly. Smitten, they were. Julian never lingered on the idea that he may have only pursued her because of that fleeting thought. Probably had no truth in it, anyway.
