    Summary

Flint’s Finger had shaped itself around the Ironborn the same way Flea Bottom had shaped itself around the gold cloaks—watchful, nothing left out that could be taken, quick to scatter when it couldn’t fight.

But Flint's Finger had shaped itself around it in other ways, too. Ways Flea Bottom had not.

    Summary

From the time of the Andals arrival in Westeros, and the beginning of knighthood in the kingdoms, it is a well-kept tradition for knights to not only swear their oath to the seven, but to preserve a record of the great feats of their own master and his predecessors by way of adding in lines. As such, the lineage of knight to squire is preserved through the memorization and passing of these vows, and while the words are kept secret from all but their own cohort, knights who share the same oathkeeping lineage...

... There are only a handful of famed chivalric lineages that are confirmed to still exist today, most notable amongst them is the oath taken by the Dragonknight Ser Aemon Targaryen, currently preserved by his three known squires, King Daeron Targaryen the Second, his son Prince Baelor Targaryen, and Ser Robyn Rhysling. As with most lineages, it is likely there are other knights within the cohort , but those names have since been lost to time.

    Summary

Not the peace of a cease-fire,
not even the vision of the wolf and the lamb,
    but rather
as in the heart when the excitement is over
and you can talk only about a great weariness.
I know that I know how to kill,
    that makes me an adult.
And my son plays with a toy gun that knows
how to open and close its eyes and say Mama.
    A peace
without the big noise of beating swords into ploughshares,
    without words, without
the thud of the heavy rubber stamp: let it be
light, floating, like lazy white foam.
A little rest for the wounds—
    who speaks of healing?
(And the howl of the orphans is passed from one generation
to the next, as in a relay race:
    the baton never falls.)

    Let it come
    like wildflowers,
    suddenly, because the field
    must have it: wildpeace.

    Summary

He lies to himself for as long as he can, but eventually everyone has to face their own truths, and this is his: he’s in the past. If context clues ring true, he’s way in the past. Maybe too far.
He’s so tired, all he wanted to do was sleep, and perhaps never wake up, but now there’s just too much existing again, all around him, and how is he suppose to fade into nothing when there’s a whole world out there for him to protect?
He failed last time. He might fail this time, too. He’ll try anyway.
