    It’s not even the fact that he got shredded that’s bothering him. It’s the fact that he knows John is going to blame Sam for it, since Dean had been pulling Sam out of the way when it happened. He just hopes that he’s conscious enough to protect Sam when John starts in on him.
    “Dad-“ he hears Sam start to protest, and Dean braces himself. At eighteen, he’s borne witness to more than enough of John’s commands, and what happens when they aren’t followed.
    “I said take his pulse, Sam!” John yells. Is he using Dean’s injuries as a lesson? Something turns sour in Dean’s stomach.

    One, two, three more stitches out. Barely restrained screams from Sam. "I know. I know it hurts. I'm sorry, Sammy." Dean takes off his belt and puts it between Sam’s teeth, but it does little to muffle the agony.
    Five, six, seven, and now it's full-on screaming. Dean really hopes there’s no one in the adjoining rooms, otherwise they’re going to be getting a visit from the cops soon. He makes it to ten stitches pulled before Sam’s sudden silence snaps him out of his reverie. It’s a mercy to the kid, honestly, to pass out, but then Dean looks up and sees Sam’s eyes roll all the way back in his head, and his heart nearly stops.
    Immediately, Dean tries to put his focus on pushing down the memories.
