Summary
Shane looks at the plane ticket to Hawkins, Indiana in disbelief.
Ryan had told him about this case and emailed him one of his stupid info packets. And it was weak. It was a real shit weak case with nothing but a couple accounts of anecdotal evidence. Shane had written it off immediately and told Ryan to find something else to waste their time on.
Ghost mermaid. As if.

Summary
They have always had each other; lame jokes, pulling pranks on ever patient Kevin, failed attempts at breakfast in bed for Mom and Dad. Familiarity and brotherhood, loyalty that became desperate at times. Joe and Kevin, who jumped in feet first and dropped everything to do whatever they could to help Nick get this music career off the ground. It was the three of them, Kevin looking after his reckless younger brothers, parental in a way. No one else allowed, but yet Joe broke away, never satisfied for long.

Summary
It had been seventeen months.
Seventeen months of long nights of spore filled lungs, aching feet and permanently stiff trigger fingers with nothing to show for it.
The Upside Down remained empty. Quiet. Waiting.
The metaphorical wall had been hit fairly quick, but they couldn't afford to lose vigilance now. Not with Vecna still breathing, stewing somewhere just out of reach and tormenting Will's dreams almost every night.
Caution certainly couldn't be lost, because while the Upside Down had been quiet—it was morphing.

Summary
Will hesitated, his hands smeared with dirt. He hadn’t thought this far ahead. His planning had stopped at the getting-out-of-the-house-unnoticed-and-digging-him-up phase. But, now he thought about it, human heads didn’t just open like boiled eggs, did they?
-
In 1983, Will came back from the Upside Down not dead, but not exactly alive either. Five years on, in the middle of a Hawkins overrun by the Upside Down, it's getting harder and harder to hide that everyone who'd called him Zombie Boy had been absolutely right.
