Work Text:
Bakugo Katsuki savoured the awe of the crowd as he reached up on his toes to place the final block on his very tall tower. He stepped back to admire his work, putting his hands on his hips triumphantly. There were a collective of oohs and ahhs as everyone stared at master piece.
‘Wow, it’s the tallest! So cool!’
‘I can never get mine that high.’
Bakugo smiled proudly, it was his second day at school and he was already the most popular.
‘Class, we have a new student.’ The teacher declared, drawing the kids’ focused to the front of the room.
Bakugo was a little annoyed that the attention wasn’t on his anymore but he too looked towards the teacher. He saw a boy hiding behind her.
The boy was small, even for a three year old. He had green hair and green eyes, his face covered in freckles. He looked boring, Bakugo decided.
The teacher gently placed a hand on the small boy’s shoulder and pushed him forward. ‘Go introduce yourself.’ She said kindly and left, leaving him standing alone to face a stares of the others.
Bakugo was quickly losing interest in the mousey boy the then the other met his eye and he smiled. ‘Hi!’ He said happily and walked up to him. You live near my house. My name’s Midoriya Izuku.’
Bakugo regarded him. ‘Bakugo Katsuki.’ He said.
Midoriya’s brow scrunched up as he tried to pronounce the name. He looked so distressed, unable to sound out Katsuki.
The blonde rolled his eyes at the lame attempt. ‘Just call me Kacchan.’ He said with an annoyed tone.
The smile was back, lighting up his face again. ‘Ok, Kacchan!’ He said.
Bakugo shrugged carelessly and went back to his tower. He was aware of the green eyes still watching him. Looking back over his shoulder, he smirked at the other boy. ‘Pretty cool, huh?’ He said.
Midoriya nodded excitedly. ‘It’s amazing.’ He gushed.
Pride enveloped Bakugo at claiming another admirer. He really was the best, better than all of them.
There was a distinctive ringing of a bell. ‘Kids, time for break.’ The teacher called.
Almost immediately the other kids came running up to Bakugo. ‘Kacchan! Come play with us! We’re playing heroes.’
The blonde boy grinned, sweeping out a leg like he’d seen a hero do on TV and sent all his blocks crashing to the ground. He saw Midoriya flinch at the loud noise but ignored him and focused on the others. ‘Fine. But I’m the leader.’ He insisted.
There was a course of agreements from the rest of the kids. They started to make their way to the playground, Bakugo marched ahead of the group.
He didn’t have to look behind to know the others were following him. Of course they were, it was where they belonged. But he did sneak a glance, just to make sure there was a green haired boy trailing along at the back.
