Reassurance

Summary:

Bakugou explodes after hearing the endless talk about the battle to the death between All Might and All For One, and Uraraka comes to clean up the debris.

Notes:

Day 1: Fragile

Disclaimer:

Okay, hear me out. In the midst of writing this, I realized that it's painfully similar to a scene in Chapter 12 of Tharros' Two Black Dots, where Uraraka comforts Bakugou for more or less the same reason. Except mine is a complete bootleg version of the original amazing scene. I'm currently obsessed with this fanfic, so I guess I just subconsciously had it in the back of my mind while writing this. I really didn't want to scrap everything and think of another scenario, because I was already halfway done, so let's just say that this is heavily inspired by that scene in TBD. I'll just put that out there, before anyone gets off on me. Anywho, check out Two Black Dots! It's an amazing Kacchako fic that everyone should go and read and support! Shower the writer with love!

Work Text:

Most of Class 1-A was lounging around in the common area, relishing their day off after the battle between All Might and All For One. Bakugou was sitting back on the couches, trying to drown out the conversation the others were having about the incident at Kamino, but the words seeped into his ears. He turned on the TV to distract himself.

“All Might, the Number 1 hero and Symbol of Peace, has revealed to have an emaciated form! Who would’ve thought—” the reporter’s voice was cut off as Bakugou changed the channel.

“Now that the nation is lacking a Symbol of Peace, who will continue All Might’s legac—” he changed the channel.

“Panic rises as the need for a Symbol of Peace is desperately nee—” Bakugou turned the TV off as his fingernails dug into his palms, squeezing the remote in between.

They just don’t fucking stop talking about it, huh?

“All For One looked mad scary! How did you guys manage to even be near him?” someone, presumably the Pink Alien, inquired.

“I know right? I would have dashed the moment he appeared,” the cowardly class pervert inputted.

“I’m just surprised that All Might—” Buzzbrain, started, but Bakugou harshly cut him off.

“Would you guys shut the fuck up about what happened at Kamino already!? What’s done is done. I got captured by the League of Villains. All Might’s retirement is officially in effect. We all know that it’s my fault that all this happened. Simple as that! Now would you shut your fucking traps?”

Gaining the attention of almost everyone that was present in the dorm lounge, he stood up and started toward his dorm room, channeling out any voice that called out his name.

Why the fuck did I say that? Usually, he has excellent self-control, and he typically doesn’t lash out like that. He didn’t know what overcame him this time, but he had bottled up all of the emotions within him for too long, and he couldn’t hold it in any longer. Purposely taking big, swift steps so no one could catch up to him, he quickly opened the door to his room and slammed it shut, opting to sit down right in front of his balcony door, not necessarily staring off at one particular thing in the sky, but rather zoning out.

Then shortly after, Bakugou heard a soft knock at the door followed by the knob turning and opening. Fuck. I forgot to lock the door. “Get the fuck outta my room, Deku—” he growled just as he was cut off.

“Bakugou.”

With his head turned away from the room entrance, he had only assumed it was Izuku standing at the foot of his door. However, he was surprised to hear a higher pitched voice, and when he turned around, he met her glowing brown orbs, determination enlaced in them. Unable to hold the challenging gaze in her eye, he twirled back around, slumping his shoulders down further than he liked. He already showed enough weakness earlier, and he was not willing to show anymore than that.

“What the fuck do you want, Uraraka?”

Uraraka invited herself further into Bakugou’s room, stopping just behind where he sat on the floor. Despite acknowledging her presence, Bakugou made no indication of turning around. When he felt a little thump beneath his figure, he knew that she had taken a seat and made herself comfortable.

“Bakugou, you know that everything All Might did was his decision, and his decision alone.”

She was met with silence.

“You didn’t know that any of that was going to happen. And...and you know that you’re never going to become a villain.”

Before he could prevent himself from saying anything, the words were already out, “You don’t know what it’s fucking like.”

“You’re right. I don’t. But I do know that you, more than anyone in the class, even more than Deku, want to be a hero. You don’t let anything get in the way of that. Quite frankly, you’re the epitome of passion.”

Bakugou growled, more watered down and more forced than he had wanted.

“And because you have this, this...burning-fucking-passion to become a hero, you don’t let anyone or anything get in the way of that. And not even the League can deter that in any fucking way.” Uraraka said, any regard for proper language thrown out the window. “And even if no one else sees that quality in you, or even if everyone else says otherwise, I’ll make them see with their own damn eyes,” she said firmly. She got up and started toward the door, allowing Bakugou some space.

Uraraka pivoted toward the door, and almost closed it, but not enough that it clicked, so there was a little crack in the opening. But before she fully exited, she muttered an audible “So don’t beat yourself down about it.”

After a few minutes, of silence, another knock was heard at the door, signaling the presence of another person. Just how many people were going to bother him?

“Hey, Bakugou.”

It was Kirishima.

Bakugou’s silence indicated that he could continue.

“When we saved you from the League of Villains at Kamino—”

“You didn’t fucking save me,” Bakugou deadpanned.

“Right. Anyway, Uraraka was the only one that said that you would feel disgraced if we came to rescue—I mean, retrieve you. Even though it seems heartless at the surface level understanding, she seems to understand you a lot, maybe even more than me.”

More silence.

“What I’m trying to say is: take her words into serious consideration.”

Bakugou replied with silence, but Kirishima knew that he wasn’t ignoring him, but rather putting deep thought into what he said. He took this as his cue to leave.

“I’ll leave you to it then, Bakugou,” Kirishima said as he turned his heel and walked out his room.

Bakugou pressed his palms to his eyes and slouched down, trying to organize his thoughts.

“Disgraced, huh?” he muttered to no one in particular, “Well, she was right about one thing.”

Against his will, the corners of his mouth slightly tugged upward at the thought of what Uraraka said and what Kirishima said about her. Despite the roller coaster that was currently turning in his stomach, and despite the knots and ties that were winding in his gut, she was the only person keeping him sane.

I have no regard for a consistent word count—this is almost twice as long as the previous day's.
