Work Text:
Tsuyu Asui was a sight to behold. That’s what Ochako found herself thinking as she stared at the back of said girl’s head during class.
She knew it was sort of creepy, it had been mentioned before. But, she honestly couldn’t help herself. Tsuyu was just so brilliant in so many ways. She was calm in tense situations, provided guidance to her when she was troubled, providing a soothing presence, and she was just beautiful.
It wasn’t a secret to anyone in the class that she had feelings for Izuku towards the beginning of the year. It was obvious to everyone except for the boy in question. The girls constantly teased her about it, but Izuku was her best friend. She couldn’t do that. Eventually, she lost hope with the relationship and decided she didn’t want to put their friendship in jeopardy. Well, that, and he was totally making heart eyes at Todoroki and gushed to her constantly about him.
It hurt at first, but that’s where Tsuyu came in. She was always comforting her about it when she got particularly down, giving her hugs and lending her a shoulder to cry on and other forms of physical affection that she knew Ochako liked. She could always count on her to help her calm down. Over time, her romantic feelings for Izuku dissipated and they remained as best friends. She even helps him out when he needs to talk about Todoroki, letting him gush or giving him advice as a wingwoman. She was all in the clear. But then, being the bisexual mess that she is, she ended up getting feelings for Tsuyu instead.
Things were normal at first, but the small things became huge eventually. Even when she didn’t exactly need any comfort, Tsuyu often gave her hugs and held her hand just because. At first, it was a simple friendly gesture to Ochako, but now she practically lived for it, the actions making her chest swell with affection every time she did it. She was lucky Tsuyu didn’t bring up how her face practically flushed from it. Maybe Tsuyu just assumed she was really happy? No, Tsuyu’s way more observant than that. Maybe she was just sparing Ochako from death by embarrassment. She’d much rather keep her romantic love to herself so she didn’t ruin anything between them. She was right back at square one.
Ochako was zoning out more and more into her gay thoughts when Tsuyu turned around and caught her gaze. She gave her a pleasant smile in response, not finding it weird Ochako was staring. Ochako, however, flushed and sputtered, burying her face in her book to avoid the gaze. Tsuyu gave a soft giggle returned to the lesson.
She heard another chuckle in the room, turning to look in its direction. Izuku was hiding his amused grin at Ochako getting caught staring by her crush. Ochako shot him a glare and huffed quietly, seeing it made it harder for him not to laugh. She rolled her eyes and turned back around, figuring she should try paying attention. But, she ended up just doing more hopeless pining instead.
-
“This is so haaaard! How did you even do it, Deku?!” Ochako flopped back onto Izuku’s bed. They were in his dorm room after classes. He was sitting on his desk, laughing a little at her anguish.
“Do what?” He asked, causing her to look at him with narrowed eyes.
“I mean practically drool over Todoroki from a distance.” She smirked as his face flushed from embarrassment.
“Well, it’s not like I’m good at it. Iida mentioned it and you obviously noticed it.” He replied, rubbing the back of his head. She blinked and sighed.
“It sounds like we’re pretty hopeless, huh?” She laughed dryly, causing her friend to nod in agreement.
“Well, has Tsuyu said anything about it yet?” He inquired, causing her to shake her head in response. “I see. That can mean that she likes you back?”
“Thanks, but I doubt it. I mean, why would someone like me?” Ochako shrugged, earning a small, dramatic gasp from her companion.
“No comments like that! They’re not allowed!” Izuku huffed.
Ochako sat up, looking at him, narrowing her eyes. Izuku did the same, keeping her gaze. They stared at each other for about ten seconds before they cracked and began laughing at the same time. They kept going for a little before Ochako wiped a tear from her eye.
“Okay, okay, seriously. You’re awesome and you shouldn’t think otherwise.” Izuku told her, calming himself down. Ochako felt herself raise up a little, feeling love for her best friend swell. Platonic love this time.
“Awww, you sap! Get over here!” She shouted, launching herself up and pulling him in into a crushing embrace. Izuku laughed, gladly hugging her back. “And just so you know, that goes for you too. Todoroki would be missing out of he didn’t like you back.”
“Thanks, Occhan,” Izuku said warmly. She giggled, nodding as they separated.
This time, they both flopped on the bed, lying down next to one another as they stared at the ceiling and silently enjoyed one another’s company. It was a common practice for them, but it never lost its value. Eventually, they stopped messing around and began working on their homework despite having the weekend to do it, chatting in the process. They spent the rest of the time gushing about each of their crushes before they bid each other farewell.
Ochako walked back to her room, feeling lighter than she had all day. She began to wonder about what Izuku said to her, imagining her and Tsuyu together. She found herself blushing, giggling quietly to herself when she imagined them as a couple. But, she figured she shouldn’t exactly get her hopes.
She still went to sleep that night feeling pretty warm about the thought.
-
“Would you like to accompany me downtown today, Ochako? They have a new bakery that opened and I wanted to try it, but I didn’t want to go alone, ribbit.” Tsuyu asked Ochako the next morning, tilting her head in her usual way. Ochako nearly choked on her breakfast.
Was this a date? Was Tsuyu asking her out on a date?
Wait, they were best friends. Of course, this wouldn’t just be a date. This was just a friendly outing. She quickly tried to gain control of her Gay Feelings™ before sputtering out a response.
“Y-Yeah! Sounds fun!” She agreed. Tsuyu put a finger on her chin in a questioning manner.
“Are you alright, ribbit? You seem to be turning red. If you’re sick, we don’t have to go today-” Tsuyu didn’t get to finish her sentence before Ochako launched herself up and grabbed her hands.
“No, I definitely want to go! Sweets sound too good to pass up right now!” She assured. And holy shit, she was holding both of Tsuyu’s hands right now like it was nothing. “Besides, I’m not even sick or anything!” She promised. Tsuyu seemed to scan her for a moment or two before giving a smile and nod.
“Alright. We’ll go later in the day, possibly in the afternoon. Maybe meet me outside at four?” Tsuyu prompted, causing Ochako to rapidly nod her head. “Great. It’s a date, ribbit.”
Tsuyu left the kitchen after that, not taking the moment to realize how much of an impact her words left on Ochako. Said gravity user was left standing in the kitchen, practically about to explode from overwhelming feelings. She quickly finished the rest of her breakfast and dashed up to her room to start getting ready. Who cares if it was early for it, she’s making sure she doesn’t look terrible.

Ochako was attempting to make last-minute perfections to her hair and regulate her nervous breathing as she headed outside. She forced herself to drop her hands after some time, not wanting to mess it up any further after Izuku worked so hard to help her despite her not feeling anything was right. She looked at her outfit of button-up pink shirt (but unbuttoned), a white t-shirt, and black shorts with her normal pink and black gym shoes. She almost didn’t walk out of her room, thinking she looked too casual, but Izuku refused to let her stay in. She had such an excellent best friend.
Upon reaching the entrance, she glanced at the time. It was four o’clock on the dot, she wasn’t late or early. She closed her eyes and took a breath to collect herself. She’s going to be fine, it’s just a friendly outing. Nothing out of the ordinary, they’re just two friends hanging out. Nothing more, nothing less. She opened her eyes and confidently strode out to meet Tsuyu.
She damn near collapsed when she saw the frog girl.
Tsuyu was wearing a green sundress, her hair half tied up in a bow and looking pretty casual herself. Or, that’s what Ochako tried to tell herself that’s what Tsuyu was doing because she honestly couldn’t tell with how fucking stunning the other girl was in the moment. She didn’t even process that she was just gaping before Tsuyu turned around, blinking and giving her a smile.
“Oh, Ochako. I didn’t see you there. I was just beginning to wonder where you were, ribbit.” Tsuyu greeted happily. Ochako sputtered, turning a tiny bit red at the small gesture.
“O-Oh, sorry to make you wait! I was choosing what to wear, heh…” She rubbed the back of her head, suddenly quite nervous despite willing herself to calm down. Tsuyu shook her head.
“You didn’t, I promise. It’s really no problem.” Tsuyu got a little closer, giving her a pat on the back to reassure her. She either missed the way Ochako reddened a little more or simply didn’t comment on it. “Shall we get going?”
Ochako nodded quickly, causing Tsuyu to smile and nod in response, beginning to walk out of school grounds. Ochako walked by her side, hyperaware of the things going on around her. She felt like she and Tsuyu were walking in step with each other, she could feel the shoulder touching occasionally as they walked close and the way their hands brushed at times, making her heart beat a little faster.
They eventually reached the train station, boarding their train and taking a seat beside one another. Ochako wanted nothing more than to just be closer with her, lie her head on her shoulder, scoot closer, just about anything would’ve satisfied her. She felt like she was beginning to lose control of her emotions when a hand on her thigh brought her back down to earth. She looked over to see Tsuyu looking at her expectantly.
“Sorry, I think I spaced out a little!” She quickly apologized. Tsuyu gave a quiet, croaking giggle and if Ochako had to listen to only one sound for the rest of her life, she’d just listen to her laugh.
“It’s alright. I just asked how you were doing with your quirk training.” Tsuyu repeated her question for her. Ochako was a bit caught off guard, but smiled.
“I think it’s going well! I still need to catch up with everyone, but I think I can float more things without getting nauseated as fast!” She told Tsuyu proudly, feeling as if she made progress. “What about you, Tsu?”
“Well, I’ve been working on jumping around and increasing the strength of my tongue, along with working on my camouflage technique.” She explained, placing a finger on her chin as she explained. “I know it may not be possible, but I just wanted to see if I could improve upon the super move.”
“That sounds cool! I know you can do it!” Ochako encouraged without hesitation. Tsuyu smiled, giving Ochako’s hand a squeeze in a thankful gesture.
“I appreciate that. I know you can grow ever stronger too, ribbit.” Tsuyu replied gratefully.
Ochako tried to pretend her heart didn’t damn near stop when the other squeezed her hand and she felt like she was more or less successful. Her cheeks flushed slightly, but it could just be taken as appreciation. They made small talk about other academics before just talking about nothing, but both girls were definitely still interested in the conversation. They were so lost that they almost missed their stop. They got off the train, laughing a little at their almost slip-up.
“That was close, huh?” Ochako giggled, looking around the downtown area before looking back at her companion. Tsuyu also giggled with her.
“I would say so, yes. It would’ve been troublesome to have to travel back here, ribbit.” She agreed. Ochako nodded in response, giving her a smile.
“Totally,” Ochako replied, not saying that she wouldn’t have minded since it meant more time with her crush. “So! Where’s this place at?”
“It’s this way. Shall we?” Tsuyu replied, pointing in a direction. Ochako nodded, walking with her, not much time passing before they fell into step and Ochako was getting that feeling from walking with her the first time. She pressed her fingers together nervously before looking at Tsuyu.
“Hey, Tsu?” She started quietly. She was going for it. She might be pushing her luck, but she didn’t quite want the outing to end when it was supposed to. So, she was taking a risk. Tsuyu looked at her in a questioning manner.
“Yes, Ochako?” She inquired, tilting her head slightly.
“Do...you think we could...maybe hang out for a little longer after we eat at the bakery?” She asked hesitantly, fearing being turned down. But, instead, Tsuyu just smiled.
“Of course we can. If we’re being honest, I wanted this to last a bit longer too.” Tsuyu replied. Ochako’s heart soared, looking at the frog girl in disbelief.
“You didn’t want it to either?” She asked quietly. Tsuyu shook her head.
“I didn’t. It’s nice, being with you.” It was a simple comment from the frog girl, yet Ochako nearly turned red. She sputtered for a bit, holding back her blush before nodding quickly.
“I like being with you too!” Ochako quickly complemented in response. Tsuyu giggled, giving a nod.
“Thank you, ribbit. That makes me happy.”
“Of course!”
They fell into a comfortable silence and Ochako felt like she could just about explode with happiness. Tsuyu looked to be her usual self, so it was sort of hard to gauge on what level her affection for Ochako went. She was only doing it because Izuku said it might be a good way to figure out how she feels, but Tsuyu’s kind of a mystery. She also hadn’t commented on anything Ochako had done because of her Gay Feelings™, but Ochako wasn’t sure if it was because of her not noticing or her just deciding to not mention it.
“Oh, here we are, ribbit.”
Ochako came out of her thoughts and looked at the bakery ahead of them. It was fairly cutesy and looked like it had a warm, inviting feel to it. Ochako gawked for a short amount of time, causing Tsuyu to look at her.
“Do you think it looks good?” She questioned. Ochako stared for a moment more before looking back to the other with a slightly embarrassed flush.
“Oh, yeah, sorry! I’m just not really used to going to bakeries and all. I love the things they sell, but I never really asked to go that often because I didn’t want to strain our budget.” Ochako rubbed the back of her head as she explained. “I try going to them more now that we’re at the dorms, but I don’t go crazy, you know?”
“Oh? Well, I’ll pay for you. And go with you when you want some. Alright?” Tsuyu said without hesitation. Ochako almost choked, quickly waving her hands.
“Oh, no! You don’t have to do that for me!” Ochako told her in a flurry, not wanting to cast any burdens. Tsuyu shook her head.
“No, it’s quite alright. It’s no trouble.” She confirmed. Still, Ochako pushed a little.
“No, really, it’s-” Ochako stopped as Tsuyu stepped forward and grabbed both of her hands in a gentle motion, giving them a squeeze.
“Ochako, it’s alright. I really want to, I promise. I’m not doing it out of obligation. Consider it a gift from me to you.” Tsuyu assured her gently, looking like she meant it. She was also really close. Ochako decided that at that moment that if this is how she went out for good, she was definitely okay with it. She wondered if the frog girl could hear or feel her heart hammering in her chest from their close proximity. She couldn’t deny Tsuyu after that.
“I-If you’re really sure...then okay.” Ochako complied, giving a nod. Tsuyu gave her a warm smile, giving her hands another squeeze before letting go. Ochako didn’t mention how she already missed the contact.
“Thank you,” Tsuyu said to her, seeming happy that Ochako agreed. “Now, shall we?”
Ochako nodded and Tsuyu walked forward, opening the door for her. Ochako smiled her thanks and pretended her feelings weren’t going crazy at the moment, walking through the door normally. She just had to keep in check for the rest of their outing and then she can gush to her heart’s content with Deku later.
“What would you like?” Tsuyu asked, turning to her and placing a finger on her chin. Ochako looked at the menu and saw strawberry crepes, practically already drooling in anticipation. “So, the strawberry crepes then?”
“Oh, heh, yeah!” Ochako rubbed the back of her head, giving a smile. Tsuyu gave one in response.
“Sounds good. I’ll get out food. Would you mind going to find us a table, ribbit?” Tsuyu prompted, pointing to the seating area. Ochako nodded, giving a playful salute. Tsuyu laughed a little, nodding in confirmation before going off to the line.
Ochako looked around before she found a spot she liked and took a seat. She thought Tsuyu would like it too. Or she at least hoped she did. She’d feel bad if she didn’t. But, Tsuyu would simply say she didn’t and they’d just move to another table. Not going to ruin the outing or anything.
She really had to calm down and take a breath.
Her phone vibrated in her pocket, causing her to look down as she pulled it out. She saw she got a text notification from Izuku. She glanced up to see Tsuyu in the line just in time to see Tsuyu looking at her. The frog girl gave a smile and a wave and Ochako gave her one in return happily before quickly deciding she had time to get some gushing out of her system. She opened the text conversation they shared.

“Hey, sorry for the wait. That took a little longer than expected, ribbit.” Tsuyu apologized, taking a seat with their food in hand. Ochako quickly shook her head in response.
“No, no! It’s fine, I didn’t mind!” She said quickly, not wanting the frog girl to feel bad. Tsuyu smiled in response, giving a nod.
“I saw you were on your phone. Were you texting someone while waiting?” Tsuyu asked idly, distributing their items. Ochako nodded in confirmation.
“Yeah, it was just Deku. He wanted to know how our da-” She choked on her words, face flushing a bit. She was so close to saying ‘date’ right then and there and she wanted to slap herself. Luckily, Tsuyu didn’t seem to realize, putting a finger on her chin and tilting her head slightly. “...He was to know how our outing was going!”
“Oh, that’s nice of him. He is really sweet after all.” Tsuyu hummed, giving a soft smile. Ochako gave a nervous giggle and agreed, still recovering from her just barely prevented slip-up. “So, shall we eat, ribbit?”
“Oh, yeah! Let’s!” Ochako suddenly remembered how excited she was to try her treat that she got. She grabbed her utensils and waited for Tsuyu to begin before she started as well.
Ochako only took one bite before she felt like she was melting. It wasn’t like anything she’d ever tasted previously even if it was biased because she hadn’t tasted many before. She practically squealed to herself when she tried it, loving it already. She took a few more bites and just relished in the flavor before she heard a quiet giggle. She glanced up to see Tsuyu covering her mouth and with (she was probably being too hopeful) pale red cheeks. She blinked, blushing herself while suddenly feeling a tiny bit nervous.
“What’s funny?” She asked the frog girl, keeping it light while secretly hoping she didn’t do anything embarrassing.
“It’s just the way you reacted to eating the crepes.” Tsuyu explained. Ochako rubbed the back of her head, feeling the embarrassment growing.
“Yeah, I guess I was a little much, huh?” Ochako laughed slightly. To her surprise, Tsuyu smiled and shook her head.
“No, not at all. I just found it to be sort of cute, ribbit.” Tsuyu giggled.
It was like Ochako just ceased to function as soon as the word left Tsuyu’s mouth.
Tsuyu found her cute? Was it in the friend way? The romantic way? She desperately hoped for the romantic way, but who could tell? Tsuyu was always upfront about what she was thinking. The delivery was sort of ambiguous, though. Who knows what she could’ve-
“Ochako? Are you alright? Your face is turning red.” Tsuyu brought her back down to earth, suddenly closer in an attempt to inspect the girl. Ochako nearly malfunctioned, heart hammering in her chest as she nodded so fast she got a tiny headache.
“I’m fine!” She said abruptly, seemingly catching Tsuyu off guard. She took a breath and tried composing herself. “Just sort of spaced out all of a sudden.”
“Ah, that’s alright. Shall we finish eating, ribbit?” Tsuyu asked her, gesturing to their food. Ochako furiously agreed, wanting to distract herself from what just happened.
The two girls continued to eat before finishing and leaving the bakery. Ochako seemed fairly satisfied by the treat, smiling as they walked out. Tsuyu seemed pleased that the other enjoyed herself.
“Now, what would you like to do?” Tsuyu asked the other, turning to look at her. Ochako looked back, thinking for a moment.
“Maybe we could...go to the park?” She suggested, the idea seeming to go over well with the frog girl.
“Sounds okay to me, ribbit.” Tsuyu agreed, gesturing in the direction of the park. “Shall we go?”
Ochako agreed before practically bouncing along with Tsuyu as they walked. She felt significantly more uplifted than she did before leaving out and she wasn’t even in a bad mood before their outing. She felt like she was radiating happiness, but hoped it wasn’t too much for the sake of not ruining the mood. Eventually, they reached the park.
It wasn’t busy, surprisingly enough, only having a few people spending time there. Otherwise, it was empty. It wasn’t like Ochako went out of her way to avoid people, she felt like she was fairly sociable with her friends and just others in general, but it was nice to feel like she and Tsuyu could still be alone together without having tons of people around them.
“I see a bench we could sit under that tree,” Tsuyu pointed to a tree that was in the shade. “Would you like to go there?”
“Oh, that looks great! Yeah, let’s go!” Ochako agreed, finding the spot to be perfect. Tsuyu smiled and led her over there.
The two girls sat down on the bench and relaxed upon doing so, the bench giving them a place somewhere relatively comfortable to sit. Ochako was expecting to have to sit on the grass or something. She noticed a bit of gap between them and felt her face flush a tiny bit at thinking about how she could close it some. Would Tsuyu mind? Would she let her do so? Or would she just move away with saying anything? Ochako seemed to contemplate this hard before just taking the chance and sliding slightly closer. Tsuyu only glanced at her with a warm smile. She let out a breath she didn’t know she was holding at the positive reaction.
“It’s a really good day out today, huh?” Ochako said, looking to the sky. Tsuyu did the same, giving a nod and a smile.
“I think so, ribbit. It was a good day to come out.” Tsuyu agreed with a hum. Ochako nodded and continued to skygaze normally.
Until she felt a new weight against her.
She froze, risking a glance to the side of her. Tsuyu was leaning against her. It wasn’t even that big of a deal. They did this while they were in each other’s rooms. They did this sometimes when Ochako got done crying over Izuku when she still liked him or sometimes when she just needed some comfort. She didn’t feel too many intense emotions then.
So why did it choose now of all times to cause her heart to damn near leap out of her chest now?
“Is this alright?” Tsuyu asked from the side of her. “I don’t want to make you uncomfortable.”
“It’s perfectly alright! Don’t worry, I’m good!” Ochako assured carefully.
“Alright. You can lean against me too, ribbit.” Tsuyu told her before looking back over the park.
Ochako’s heart was racing and she was trying to will it to calm down. She took Tsuyu’s words to heart (in more ways than one) and leaned against her slowly. The frog girl smiled in response and seemed alright with it. It was like this as they watched the sky slowly change colors. When it was starting to get dark, Tsuyu sat up and gently nudged Ochako, who seemed to be dozing off.
“We should probably get going back to the dorms, Ochako.” Tsuyu said softly, not wanting to jostle too hard. Ochako nodded slowly, stretching before looking back at her.
“Yeah, you’re probably right.” She agreed. Tsuyu nodded and stood, offering her hand. Ochako just hoped she didn’t blush as she took it, standing with her assistance.
They walked back to the train station, making small talk as they went. They were walking as close as usual and Ochako wanted so desperately to just grab her hand that it made her heart physically ache.
Eventually, when it was basically night time, they arrived back to the dorms. Ochako came to the entrance, looking at Tsuyu with a smile. She got one in return and tried to ignore her fluttering heart as she then looked at the sky, now dark and shimmering with stars.
“Well, would you look at that? It’s a beautiful night too.” Ochako giggled. Tsuyu hummed beside her.
“That it is, ribbit.” She croaked gently. Ochako looked at her and froze in place.
Tsuyu looked absolutely stunning in the moonlight. Her hair was waving in a gentle breeze that had come by and her eyes were just sparkling thanks to the lighting she got from the stars and moon. She looked back at Ochako, catching her gaze and looking at her in return. Ochako stared for a few moments longer before she lost any semblance of self-control.
Suddenly, she was kissing the frog girl before she knew what was happening.
The experience was nothing like Ochako thought it would be. Tsuyu’s lips were soft and warm and they felt wonderful to kiss. Ochako was in love with it in an instant just how she loved the other girl, but she fully processed what was going on and it caused her stomach to sink.
Tsuyu wasn’t kissing back. In fact, she was as stiff as a board.
Ochako, as soon as she realized this, jumped back as if she’d suddenly been burned. Tsuyu’s frozen in place, gaping at what just happened. Ochako suddenly feels sick to her stomach and tears begin to well up in her eyes before she could stop them. She tried opening her mouth to say something, to say anything, but nothing came out. She shut it abruptly before spinning around and charging inside. She heard Tsuyu say something, but she didn’t stop to listen as she barreled into the dorms.
Since it was late at night, mostly everyone had already retired to their rooms at the very least. However, just to add to her bad luck, there were others still in the common room. Izuku, Todoroki, and Iida startled a bit upon such a forceful entry. They all quickly looked in her direction, making her feel more on display and all the more embarrassed.
“Please, I must ask that you come in quieter-” Iida stopped mid-lecture, seeing his friend’s appearance and frowning in concern. Izuku and Todoroki were the same way.
“Occhan? Are you alright? What happened?” Izuku asked softly, trying to not overwhelm. She appreciated his concern, she really did, but she felt incredibly exposed and still feared Tsuyu coming into the dorms and seeming disgusted or telling her they couldn’t be friends anymore.
So, she just ran up the stairs to her room.
She reached her room, almost slamming the door, but remembered how her friends might be sleeping at this time. She managed to just shakily close it before she let the emotions loose, beginning to sob quietly at her whole situation. She collapsed on her bed, feeling shame wash over her. How could she have been so stupid? How could she think Tsuyu would like that? Of course she wouldn’t. Who would? She should’ve held herself back. That way they could’ve still been friends. She wouldn’t be here close to hyperventilating and a breakdown like she is right now. A couple of quiet knocks echoed through the room, causing her to glance at her door.
“Occhan? Can I come in?” Izuku asked quietly through the door. Of course, he would be here. He’s too caring to just see her like this and then not come. She appreciated it greatly. She truly didn’t trust her voice to work, so she pulled out her phone and send him a text.
uravity: the doro is unlcked
She made typos through the tears, but she didn’t bother to fix them. She heard a light buzz from the other side of the door and a few moments later, Izuku walked into the room. He saw her curled in on herself and his face was dripping with concern. He closed the door behind him and sat down beside her without a word. He opened his arms slightly and she took the invitation, going into his arms. He held her in a comforting manner, letting her sob into his shoulder as he rubbed back soothingly.
She truly didn’t deserve him as a best friend.
Sometime later, she was reduced to sniffling and he was running his fingers through her hair. He remembered it helped her calm down. She noticed him look down at her to inspect how she was, seeing few tears remaining.
“What happened?” He asked her quietly, not wanting to push her. She appreciated the thoughtfulness.
“...I kissed her,” She mumbled quietly. “And she froze. Just gaped at me. I ruined everything, I know I did. She probably thinks I’m disgusting. I didn’t even ask if she liked things like that or even if she thought it would be okay if I did it.” She felt more tears threatening to fall. Izuku shushed her quietly, somehow just sensing it without looking.
“It’s okay, Occhan,” He said soothingly. “I’m sure she doesn’t think those things. She was probably just surprised.”
“I don’t know.” She whispered in response. She knew how Tsuyu was, but it was hard to take to heart when seeing her reaction.
“I know.” He seemed to understand what she meant without her saying. “It’s okay. I’m here for you.” He assured her. She gripped his shirt a little harder.
“Thanks.” She mumbled into his shoulder, earning a hum from the boy.
“Do you want to watch a movie?” He asked, glancing down at her. “It may help you feel better.”
“That sounds good.” She agreed quietly. “...Can you get some snacks too?”
“Of course, Occhan.” He told her, giving a nod.
Ochako released him and he stood, assuring her he’d hurry back. He left the room to go retrieve the items. True to his word, it didn’t take him long at all to return with movie snacks and her favorite movie. They sat together, watching it and eating away. She had to admit, it did make her feel better. They spent the night just doing things to make Ochako feel better. When she was finally falling asleep, she felt Izuku press a gentle kiss to her forehead.
“Sleep well.” He whispered to her, carding his fingers through her hair soothingly to help her to sleep. She gave a little hum of acknowledgment before letting exhaustion take over her and finally slipping into sleep.
-
A full week had passed since the tragic conclusion to Ochako and Tsuyu’s date and Ochako’s done her best to avoid the frog girl at all costs. She didn’t look at her during class, sat at a different spot at lunch, went straight to her room after classes, and always made sure she was partners with literally anyone else besides her. She couldn’t bear to see her. She just knew Tsuyu would use the opportunity to tell her how not okay her impulsiveness was.
Once classes were over for the week and the weekend started, the class agreed to go on an outing together. Ochako wasn’t feeling up to it and even though Izuku really tried to stay with her to make sure she was okay, she insisted he go along with the rest of the class. She even brought up spending time with Todoroki, which Izuku had been doing a lot since the hangout they had earlier that week. She definitely wasn’t letting her best friend miss out on a good time because she was too busy moping.
“Are you sure, Occhan? It’s really no trouble!” Izuku said once again, standing in her doorway before leaving.
“Deku, I’m fine, I promise!” Ochako forced a tiny smile, hoping she wasn’t obvious. His concerned frown told her that she wasn’t too convincing. “I’ll be here when you get back. You can tell me all about it and even gush about Todoroki if you have to.”
“Well, alright…” He replied, turning slowly and preparing to leave. But, before walking out, he turned around and strode over giving her a tight hug. “It’s going to be okay, alright?” He assured her again, similar to how he’d been doing for a week. She was a tiny bit surprised, but just laughed softly and hugged him back.
“Thank you, Deku.” She mumbled softly.
Izuku embraced her for a moment longer before pulling away and giving her a nod, turning and leaving out of her room. Ochako sighed, flopping back onto her bed and staring at the ceiling. The commotion down from the common room eventually died out as the class walked out and to their destination. She didn’t move for a few minutes after it disappeared, but her stomach growled, causing her to wince.
She wouldn’t mind doing a bit of stress-eating at this point. Giving her stomach some food might be a nice distraction for the time being. No one else was here anyway. With that thought in mind, she quickly got herself ready for the day (even though she was most likely going to stay in her room for it) before grabbing her phone and walking downstairs, hair still slightly wet from her shower.
Ochako sighed, rubbing her face as she walked down the corridor and headed into the stairwell. She didn’t think too much of the silence, but she jumped when her phone vibrated loudly in her pocket. She grumbled slightly as she made it to the first floor, pulling it out of her pocket and checking the notification. A text from Deku? Wonder what he could need. Maybe gushing about Todoroki? She went to turn into the kitchen as she read them.
deku: OCCHAN I JUST REALIZED
deku: SORRY FOR NOTICING SO LATE I WAS TALKING TO TODOROKI
deku: NOT EVERYONE WENT ON THIS OUTING
Not everyone went on the outing? What could he be talking about? And why was he typing in all caps like this? It couldn’t have been that important-
“Ochako?”
Ochako’s head shot up from her phone to see Tsuyu at the kitchen counter, holding a glass of water that she suddenly put down. Ochako stared for a moment before all of the emotions she’d been trying to repress suddenly came rushing up to the surface. She felt like she almost had to throw up, biting her lip to keep from crying, quickly spinning around.
“I’m sorry, I’ll just leave-” Ochako tried to run back to her room, but her hand was caught by another before she could get far.
“Wait, please. Talk to me, Ochako. I miss you, ribbit.” Tsuyu’s voice was quiet and vulnerable, not something she heard often from the frog girl. “Please don’t avoid me anymore.”
Ochako froze, finding it quite difficult to will her legs to move any further from their current position. It suddenly clicked how her behavior might’ve been hurting Tsuyu this entire time and she didn’t even realize because she was so determined to not face her problems. She might’ve been suffering just as much as Ochako had been and she hadn’t even tried to help or settle things because she was avoiding her.
Ochako hurt her. Something she never wanted to do in her entire life. At the moment, she couldn’t hold back her emotions, now feeling immense regret and guilt flooding her very being. She sniffed in a whimper, still not facing Tsuyu.
“Ochako? Look at me, please,” Tsuyu asked her gently. It took a moment to work up the courage, but Ochako slowly turned and faced her, tears now rolling down her cheeks. Tsuyu’s gaze immediately turned sympathetic. “Oh, Ochako, don’t cry. Come here.”
Tsuyu pulled the other girl into an embrace and Ochako didn’t fight it. Instead, she wholeheartedly buried her head in the other girl’s shoulder and cried, repeating over and over how sorry she was. Tsuyu continued to shush her, rubbing her back and letting her cry. She even got a little emotional herself, tiny beads of tears forming in the corner of her eyes. They remained in an embrace for what felt like a few minutes before Ochako was reduced to sniffles. Tsuyu gently pulled back to look at the other girl, but Ochako didn’t meet her eyes and just looked down.
“...Can we talk? Maybe in my room?” Tsuyu asked quietly. Ochako visibly tensed for a moment before she gave a nod in acceptance, deciding she couldn’t run away any longer.
Tsuyu nodded and held the other girl’s hand as she led them to the elevator. Ochako didn’t fight it, but actually found the little gesture comforting. She wondered if she would be able to do it for much longer before it potentially all stops.
When they reached Tsuyu’s room, said girl closed the door behind her and gestured for Ochako to sit on the bed. Ochako did so, sitting down and being joined a moment later by Tsuyu. They sat in silence for a moment, but Tsuyu was the first to break it and Ochako shrunk under her gaze when Tsuyu turned to look at her.
“Would you like to go first, ribbit?” Tsuyu offered her to start telling her side. Ochako paused before taking a deep breath and looked at her with a guilty gaze.
“I’m sorry, Tsu, I didn’t mean to hurt you how I did. We were having a nice time a week ago and I went and ruined it by doing something stupid. I didn’t even stop to think about how you felt. Towards me, I mean. Then I went and ignored you for a week without stopping to think yet again and ended up hurting you. I shouldn’t have been so stupid. I just…” Her words caught in her throat.
Was she really about to lay all of her feelings down in front of Tsuyu? Could she do it right? Then again, she already kissed the frog girl without giving it much thought, so she can’t fuck it up any further than she already had. She took a deep breath and kept going.
“I just...I really like you, alright?” She couldn’t believe she was doing this. “I have for a while now. Close to the time I stopped liking Deku. Not to say that I jumped from one person to the next, though! It’s just that...I think you’re so strong, so calm and collected, and you really know how to be there for me. You know what helps me calm down and do your best to keep me level when I’m otherwise spiraling. You’re...also very pretty and I find that I often end up staring when I get caught up with how beautiful you are. You’ve probably noticed me freeze up randomly or something like that, heh. I can’t help it. This is the strongest I’ve ever felt about something this way and I guess I just let it get to my head during our outing. So, I’m sorry.”
There was a couple beats of silence and Ochako swore her racing heart was audible to the girl sitting next to her. But, to her surprise, Tsuyu gave a soft laugh before stopping abruptly. Ochako shot her head up to look at the other, seeing Tsuyu with red cheeks and a hidden smile behind a hand.
“Is that all? I don’t mean to laugh, so I’m sorry about that.” Tsuyu’s voice sounded significantly lighter than it had before.
“You sound...not disgusted,” Ochako said slowly, still taken aback.
“Why would I be disgusted to find out the girl I like actually feels the same way?” Tsuyu moved her hand and smiled warmly at Ochako. Ochako ceased to function before thoughts went rapid.
“You feel the same way?!” She nearly shouted, suddenly thankful no one else was there to hear her. “So...the outing?”
“Yes, that was me asking you on a date.” Tsuyu confirmed. Ochako sputtered.
“And the bakery promise?” She kept going.
“I know you love sweets and I want to take care of you, so I’ll bring you back anytime you want.” Tsuyu answered yet again. Ochako grew to another level of flustered.
“And...when you said I was cute?” She mumbled, almost embarrassed to say it.
“That was me flirting with you, ribbit.” Tsuyu admitted, not sounding ashamed at all. Ochako almost fell off the girl’s bed.
“And when you leaned on me in the park?” She pondered.
“Well, I wanted to be close to you and took my chances.” Tsuyu replied, giving a nod.
Was this really happening right now? Tsuyu, Ochako’s crush, liked her back? In what world could this have happened? Well, apparently this one, but that’s not the point. She was so amazed and felt incredibly uplifted, more so than she had in a long time. But, a crucial question popped into her head. She looked down at their feet and twiddled her thumbs anxiously before asking.
“So then...why did you freeze up when I kissed you?” Ochako stole a glance at the other girl, seeing a guilty expression on her face. She immediately wanted to revoke the question, but Tsuyu started talking before she could get the chance.
“That was my mistake. It’s not that I didn’t like it, I promise. But...I was just surprised, ribbit. I never thought you would feel that way about me, so having it happen so quick just made me freeze. I...guess I didn’t know what to do. I should’ve just reciprocated, but it was like my mind shut down on me.” Tsuyu explained. Ochako knew what that felt like for damn sure. “So...I hope you can forgive me for that. I’ll be happy to give you a redo.”
“It’s okay! I forgive you! I wasn’t upset with you in the first place, though.” Ochako told her. Tsuyu smiled, reaching her hand over before stopping. Ochako got what she was going to do and met Tsuyu’s hand with her own.
The two girls sat in a comfortable silence, both feeling lighter than they had before they came in. Ochako felt at ease for the first time in a week and like things were going her way again. The girl she had a crush on liked her back! It was something she never thought she would be feeling. She pondered Tsuyu’s previous words to her and her face turned, looking at the frog girl.
“Hey, Tsu?” Ochako started quietly. Tsuyu looked over at her.
“Yes, Ochako?” She inquired calmly. Ochako blushed and glanced down nervously at their hands.
“...You said you’d give me a redo, right?” She almost wanted to take it back.
“I did.” Tsuyu’s voice change subtly, showing she knew where this was going.
“So...can we…?” Ochako couldn’t say it out loud, but she didn’t have to.
Tsuyu slid closer to her before cupping her cheek gently and guiding her head to make eye contact. Ochako’s heart skipped a beat at the action, but leaned in when the other girl did too. When their lips met, it felt like an explosion of warmth and emotion. Their previous sudden kiss had absolutely nothing on this one. It felt like they were connecting in more ways they could ever imagine and felt completely one with one another. There was warmth spreading throughout Ochako’s body and she couldn’t even begin to describe how amazing it was. They pulled apart for air, Tsuyu leaning her head forward against Ochako’s as they panted to regain their breath, sharing the air. It was just simply dizzying for Ochako, who felt like she might float away.
“Do you think we could try this?” Tsuyu whispered to her, looking totally enamored. “Being together, I mean.”
Ochako wordlessly answered her by leaning in to kiss her again.

“You’re together with Tsu?!” Izuku whisper-shouted to Ochako while on the couch of the common room. Ochako beamed when she nodded, feeling on top of the world.
“Yeah! We confirmed it after we finished kissing.” Ochako giggled in a giddy manner, looking back on the kisses and thinking about how she could do it whenever she wanted now.
“That’s amazing! I’m so happy for you, Occhan!” Izuku got up and squeezed his best friend in a hug before picking her up and spinning around. Ochako only laughed and held on to not go flying. Not to say she thought Izuku would let her.
“Thanks, Deku!” She said warmly as he set her down. She then gave him a mischievous smirk. “Now we just have to get you together with Todoroki.” She felt satisfied when his face turned red.
“O-Occhan!” He practically whined and it only caused her to laugh in response. It wasn’t long before Izuku joined in on the laughter and they both fell back onto the couch and stared ahead. Ochako checked the time on her phone.
“Hey, Tsu’s doing homework right now, so wanna watch a movie in my room?” Ochako asked him. Izuku made a mock offended sound.
“I see I’m only second best.” Izuku playfully huffed. Ochako giggled.
“Oh, shush you. You know we’re always gonna be best friends no matter what.” She lightly punched his arm. Izuku laughed in response.
“Yeah, I know. I could totally go for a movie right about now.” He agreed.
They exchanged a nod, but before they could stand up to go, Todoroki walked into the room. They stopped to look at him and noticed he looked somewhat nervous. He was still quite stoic, but they were able to tell since they talked to him all the time. Izuku blinked, still surprised to see Todoroki as such.
“Todoroki? Are you alright?” Izuku asked. Todoroki looked at him before glancing at Ochako. He seemed to go over something in his head. Maybe she should leave. But, right when Ochako had that thought, he seemed to deem it okay for her to be here and looked back to Izuku.
“Midoriya, I have to ask you something.” Todoroki started. Ochako didn’t miss the way Izuku straightened up a bit.
“Of course! What is it?” Izuku was clearly trying to keep himself calm.
“Would you like to accompany me to the movies? And dinner too, if you will.” Todoroki asked, seemingly thinking. “I mean, as a date and not just an outing?”
Holy shit. Ochako had to hold in a squeal of delight at the interaction and Izuku’s red face. Her best friend was getting asked out by the boy he was heavily crushing on. This shit was too good to be true.
“Y-Yes! I’d, uh, love to go on a date with you, Todoroki!” Izuku agreed. Todoroki seemed to brighten up.
“That’s great. Shall we go tomorrow?” He suggested, causing Izuku to nod quickly. “It’s a date then.”
“I’ll make sure he looks insanely good for you, Todoroki!” Ochako bounced up, dragging Izuku with her when she noticed he seemed to shut down at Todoroki’s previous words. “You can count on it! Now, we have stuff to do! He can’t wait for tomorrow!” She quickly dragged Izuku out of the common room, leaving Todoroki.
They were definitely being gay with each other before, but now they could to do it to an entirely new level.
-
Todoroki stood there in the common room, staring at where Ochako and Izuku left the room to head to the elevator. He honestly couldn’t believe that had even happened. He hadn’t expected it to go so well for him. He thought about what to do before pulling out his phone and opening his texts.
shouto: i did it, momo.
shouto: the idea you had worked and he agreed to go on a date with me.
shouto: you’re the best.
momo: He said yes?!
momo: Ah, I’m so happy for you, Shouto!
momo: We have to celebrate! Let’s have tea in my room!
shouto: i’m up for that.
shouto: need something to calm my nerves.
momo: Then I’ll see you up here!
shouto: be there in a second.
With that, Todoroki put his phone back in his pocket and gave a nod to no one in particular before heading to the elevator to hear his best friend gush about how cute the date was going to be.
