Chapter 1: Mr. Eraserhead

Chapter Text

Mr. Eraserhead,

Hello! My name is Deku and I am a huuuuuuuuge fan of the work you do. I know this might sound strange but I’m emailing you about the Hanata Case you recently started working on. I’ve been following the case for a few weeks now and I noticed a pattern. If my thinking is correct, then Hanata Shinzou will be targeting the Musutafu Children’s Hospital on August 2nd, 2178 at approximately six pm, this is following his attack pattern from Hokkaido as well as Osaka. I think most people don’t realize this was the same person because the attacks were only hours apart.

Hanata has a manipulation quirk. He can control up to twenty-five people with separate commands and one-hundred with the same command. (These are approximations). He doesn’t have to be in the same place. Hanata can be hundreds of miles away and his quirk will still work, he just needs to have seen the person. Hanata was probably volunteering in the facilities that he attacked for at least a week before the attacks occurred. If you look through the volunteer records of each location you should find someone matching his appearance (though not his name, I’m assuming).

You probably won’t trust the words of a stranger who somehow got your school email but I didn’t know how else to contact you and I assumed (As there are probably a lot of confidential emails being sent on the UA server) that this email would be secure enough. That is why I’ve attached my analysis of the case and included steps you can—and should—take to verify this information.

I hope this helps and I wish you luck!

Sincerely,
            Deku.

Deku,

I have reviewed the analysis you sent and I have two questions for you: Who the hell are you? How’d you know I was working on the case?

After reading the analysis, it was obvious that the Hokkaido and Osaka attacks were related but none of the fifty people working the three cases made that connection. We’ve caught Hanata and are investigating any further connections that he has right now.

Your analysis was extremely in-depth and rather impressive. I give you my thanks for it. A lot of lives were saved.

This is my personal email. You were right, the UA email is secure enough but in the future I would rather you contact me here.

-Eraserhead

Mr. Eraserhead,

I am so glad the information was correct! I just noticed the similarities in the attacks and after watching an interview from one of the victims I realized what Hanata’s quirk was! After that it only took a couple hours to figure out the limitations based on the distances between Hokkaido and Osaka and the number of people under his control. When the orphanage was attacked I immediately connected the pattern.

I knew you were working on the case because I saw you with the other investigators who had been on scene right after the Musutafu attack. I’ve always been interested in heros, which is how I knew who you were.

Thank you for taking the analysis seriously. Not everyone does.

I mentioned in the first email that I was a huge fan, right? Do you mind answering a couple questions for me? They’re quirk related so I completely understand if you’re not comfortable with it! I find quirks fascinating and as I don’t have one of my own I can only learn about them by asking other people (most people don’t like it when I ask about quirks :c).

Please ignore these if they make you uncomfortable!!!!

Does your quirk work with a mirror or do you have to maintain direct eye-contact with a physical body?
If it does work in a mirror, could you use that to work your quirk on multiple people? (Since it’s one point of contact instead of many?)
Do you feel anything when you erase a person’s quirk?
How much do you spend on eye drops?

Thanks!

Sincerely,
             Deku.

Deku,

What do you mean not everyone takes your analysis seriously? If the quality of analysis is this well done, then it should be at least looked into. Anything else would be illogical.

You connected the attack on the orphanage to the attacks in Hokkaido and Osaka immediately. You had the case solved in under three hours which took professionals weeks. And you did it all without some type of analysis quirk? That’s impressive and I really don’t say things like that.

Which leads me back to my first question. Who the hell are you? How long have you been a professional analyzer if no one has ever heard of you?

I can’t go into detail on my quirk, especially over email.

I spend way too much on eye-drops.

-Eraserhead

Mr. Eraserhead,

I’ve sent analysis to other heroes and the police before. Usually, I don’t get a reply but sometimes I’m accused of working with the villian. WHICH I WOULD NEVER DO! My only hope here is that my hobby can turn into something that helps people.

I was told that I couldn’t be a hero without a quirk. I figured this would be the next best thing. If I can help save even one person isn’t that enough?

I’m not a professional! Honestly, Mr. Eraserhead, I’m in my third-year of middle school. I’m telling you this because I trust you. Please don’t tell anyone else. Any credibility (as limited as it is) that Deku has would be crushed if it got out (Both that I’m only 14 and that I’m quirkless). I could start over with a new alias if I needed to but I’m rather… attached to this name, as weird as that might sound. I built my resolve around the name.

I want to show the world that Quirkless does not mean worthless. Even if I can’t be a professional hero to do it.

I completely understand! If you’re willing, I can send you the analysis that I have already done on you… if that’s not weird or anything. That might be weird. Oh well.

Thank you again, Eraserhead.

-Sincerely,
              Deku.

Deku,

I fight quirkless most of the time. There is no rule saying someone without a quirk cannot become a hero. It’s just never been done before. There is still some time before the UA Exam. If you train hard enough, you could possibly make it in. Though, you’d have to have some sort of support gear, which will be difficult to get approved. The test is sort of rigged towards people with combative quirks.

I had to go through the sports festival to get into heroics.

I gotta be honest, kid, the skill-level you have for analysis is beyond most professional heroes. That, in itself, is invaluable. Who taught you?

Do you do any physical training?

-Eraserhead.

Mr. Eraserhead,

Do you mean it? I could become a hero?

Sincerely,
             Deku.

Deku,

Kid. You saved an entire hospital full of children. You already are.
