Work Text:

Tsukishima grunted softly as he woke up, his long limbs aching as he stretched. He used the arm that wasn’t being crushed by his best friend to smack at his phone, which blinked the early hours of the morning.

Three minutes before the alarm goes off, he thought miserably, squinting hard at the evil metal box. It was just 3 minutes, but he would've taken what he could get. Turning off the alarm for the day, he turned his head and planted a soft kiss onto Yamaguchi's temple. "Tadashi?"

No response.

"Tadashi, get up," he whispered, drawing out his boyfriend's name.

Yamaguchi only shifted, a quiet grunt in response. His hands, bunched into Tsukishima’s sleep shirt, opened and closed as he came to. A gentle kiss on his brow got him to stir and open his eyes, looking up. “W’ time ‘sit?”

Tsukishima chuckled, brushing a few stray hairs out from Yamaguchi’s eyes. “‘S early,” he drawled. “Alarm was set to go off in a bit.”

Yamaguchi hummed, and yawned before snuggling back into the taller man. “Wake m’ up in a bit, then.” Tsukishima let out another low chuckle, this time maneuvering himself to sit up and slide on his glasses. They were a brand new set, with a sleek black frame that only held the top half of the glass itself. They felt a bit more grown up than the black squares he’d been using all his life, and Yamaguchi said they suited him. ‘Fitting for the fancy museum guy like you are now,’ he had said.

A minute passed of Tsukishima checking some notifications, and with another yawn and a wipe at his mouth, Yamaguchi sat up next to Tsukishima. He leaned on his shoulder, squinting and squeezing his eyes to get used to the light of the phone. Sitting there, he let out another yawn.

"I don't wanna get up…"

Tsukishima chuckled and kissed the top of his hair. "I know, Dashi."

Sighing heavily and dramatically, Yamaguchi shuffled to the edge of the bed, his back to Tsukishima. Yamaguchi let out yet another yawn. Tsukishima resisted the instinct to aggressively react to how cute it was. "What if we just. Mm. Let's skip the day. Let's just stay here. Let's not go," he rambled softly to the air, still not fully awake.

Tsukishima chuckled softly, putting down his phone and shaking his head.

"Well," Tsukishima mumbled, shuffling over as well and snaking his arms around Yamaguchi's waist, resting his chin on his boyfriend's head. "That truly doesn’t sound so bad. There’ll be hundreds more iced coffees, meetings with friends, and job opportunities in the future— we can miss out on those today, sure." He smacked another kiss onto Yamaguchi’s head and gently pulled at Yamaguchi’s waist, egging him back onto the bed. “Great idea, Tadashi. Back to bed we go.”

Yamaguchi groaned, resisting the pull. “Why are you so convincing? Fine,” he sighed, hanging his head.

This time, Tsukishima’s laugh was full and ringing, contagious even to Yamaguchi’s fake pout. Yamaguchi smiled back at him, “What’s so funny, you dork?”

“I was all for your idea!”

“You’re such a schemer.”

With a shake of his head, Yamaguchi’s smile was big and bright, loose with remnants of sleep. Tsukishima would kill to save moments like these forever. “Alright, c’mon.”

They slowly but surely went through the motions of the morning. Hesitantly removing themselves from the warm sheets, brushing their teeth, heating up their breakfasts. Theirs, theirs, theirs. The two of them, always. 11 and 12. Moon and mountain.

“Oh, shit. We’re running low on bread, how did I not notice?”

Tsukishima stilled behind Yamaguchi as he rambled some more. It was a common and familiar routine at this point, having lived together for years. The two were nearly done with university, but these fleeting moments of pure domesticity hit Tsukishima like a serve to the face. What an odd feeling to love so much, so heavily that it never ceases to make him want. This insatiable craving to devote all of himself to one man, his lifelong partner through all the stages of life. He was going to marry him, wasn’t he? Maybe not soon, maybe in a few years, maybe even only as an agreement. But he would never let go, this craving, this love, was so strong it was one he had to shout. Few things ever wanted to make Tsukishima shout.

“Tsukki? Everything okay?”

Tsukishima was hit with a wave of emotion again as he had to consciously steady his voice.”Yeah. Never better.”

He padded over and dropped a soft kiss onto Yamaguchi’s lips. The two of them looked into each other's eyes, so much unspoken but so much said, their devotion to one another held witness only by the morning sun, gentle through the kitchen window.
