This story is inspired by the song "Gypsy" by Fleetwood Mac. I just got the idea and decided to write.

Work Text:

"Back to the gypsy what was it
To the gypsy ... What was it. "

Meredith looked at her mother who was completely asleep, so she opened the door of her house and left it without being heard by anyone.  Being outside, she ran between the other houses, being illuminated only by the headlights of the street which was completely empty.

She went to the nearest park where she could see the beautiful red hair of her girlfriend.

"Addison!." Meredith called her girlfriend who when she saw her smiled at her

"Hi dear"

Addison kissed Meredith who put her hands on the taller woman's shoulders, her redhead hugged the blonde's waist tightly as she increased the intensity of her kiss.

"Enough, Addie" Meredith broke away from the kiss with a slight laugh.

"Can't get excited about kissing my beautiful gypsy after not seeing her in weeks?"

"Sure you can," she grabbed her hand and guided her to a more private place.  "I just have to make sure no one sees us"

Meredith was a young gypsy woman, with customs and traditions that she could not break for any reason, and one of them was not to associate with a Creole or better known as a non-gypsy person.  A rule that she broke when she met Addison.

"Everything is to see you"

"We only have a short time before my mother finds out I'm not home," she exclaimed annoyed.

"Oh Meredith"

Addison hugged her girlfriend tightly as she spread some caresses on her back.  The redhead was a renowned doctor who had moved from New York to Seattle in order to be close to Meredith who was tied to her community.

Flashback

They met in an act of rebellion by Meredith who had run away from her house in order to go to the nearest library.  For reasons of her traditions, Meredith could only attend high school and that upset several people in her community.

When Addison visited Seattle, she took a trip around town to stop at a local bookstore to buy some books.  As she entered, she went to various sections until something caught her attention.

She is a beautiful woman with long blonde hair, a white blouse, a large cloth skirt and high heels.  A slightly strange way of dressing, but in her opinion, she was so tender the way she read her book so concentrated.

Frowning and constantly biting her lips.

"Addison Montgomery," I salute as she extended her hand with a slight smile.

But the blonde immediately stopped reading and looked at her with her bright blue eyes, in the same way she smiled at him.

"Meredith Gray" For some reason, Did not shake hands

"And you see your gypsy
You see your gypsy "

"Would you mind if I keep you company?"

"No, just don't get too close"

Addison didn't say anything else, she just pretended that she was reading but that she was actually just watching Meredith.

"You want to ask me something?"

"What?"

"If you want to ask me something, you've been watching me for more than a minute"

The redhead feeling her cheeks burn knowing that she had been discovered by the beautiful woman next to her.

"Do you study medicine? Because this whole section is about medicine"

"Oh no, not at all." She let out a slight laugh that captivated Addison. "I only studied until high school, but I'm interested"

"And may I ask why?"

"I'm a gypsy," she said without flinching. "That's why seen in this striking way"

Addison noticed for the first time the jewels dangling from Meredith's arms and neck.

"Wow, I think that's great, I've never met a gypsy." The redhead caught the blonde's attention. "And less a woman as striking as you"

Meredith turned away as she felt intimidated by the large woman next to her who, for some reason, managed to make her nervous.

"Do you want to go have a coffee?"

"One of my rules is not to associate with Creoles like you." She smiled sideways. "But I wouldn't mind breaking a couple of rules. So I have to go before someone sees me with you"

Meredith turned around and started walking away from Addison who called out to her.

"And how will I know where to find you?"

"Just come tomorrow at the same time and I'll be here"

And she just left, leaving poor Addison alone in those corridors of the library.

End flashback.

"Oh, and that lights up the night"

"You are so beautiful, darling." Addison kissed Meredith's warm, soft cheeks. "I can't wait to take you home, sleep with you in my bed, share so many things with you"

"Addison, you know we can't do that." Meredith's eyes were sad. "I can't go out without being accompanied by my mother, I can't hang out with creole with you, much less accept my sexual orientation. When I try to talk to my family about this, I only get a "We raised you to be the wife of a gypsy, not a paya"

"Why do not you come with me?  You can leave all this, you will not lack anything with me"

"It is not as easy as it looks"

"To the gypsy who is still freedom with a little fear"

And they didn't say anything else, they just tried to enjoy their company a little more, talk about other things and always avoiding the same old topic.  And as in all prayers, they had to say goodbye.

"I have to go." Meredith got up from Addison's lap who let out a sigh. "I'll try to come here in a few days, but I promise nothing"

"I love you Meredith," the redhead whispered in her ear.

"I love you too Addison," I whisper in her ear, as if what she said had been a sin.

Thus ended her brief evening, with Meredith's departure to her house, Addison only heard her heels resound through the quiet streets, admiring how her figure disappeared little by little until she was no longer observed.

"See you soon, my beautiful gypsy"

Addison always saw her from afar, accompanied by her mother or some other relative of hers, dressed in her typical clothes that made her so special in her eyes.

"I have no fear, I have only love"

Everything had been complicated for the young gypsy in recent weeks.

Meredith only had a slight conversation with Derek, her gazes locked that night and that was it.  That was enough for the blonde's parents to make the arrangement to unite the two young gypsies.

The families make an agreement and that unfortunately is not optional, a monetary arrangement is made, of how the monetary dowry that the groom's family will pay for Meredith is going to be.

How could she tell Addison about this if she wasn't allowed to use her cell phone?

"Princess come here, you have to sew the skirts!" I call Meredith's mother

Princess is Meredith's Romany name, she used it within her community, while Addison called her by her names or other nicknames she gave him.

"Enough for love"

"I go!"

Meredith went to her mother to help her with the skirts, she was concentrating on embroidering some of her without paying attention to the presence of her daughter.

"Mom," I exclaim. "What would happen if one gypsy got together with another?"

"Gypsy blood is pure and does not mix." She stopped embroidering and looked at her seriously. "And if a payo comes to touch us, we would not have the doors of Eden open. And if you're implying that you fell in love with a peasant, I swear Meredith that ..."

"Not! She was just asking"

Meanwhile Addison worked at Grace Seattle Hospital, she was looking longingly at her friend Callie who seemed happy next to her girlfriend Arizona of hers, paying no attention to anyone but the two of them.

So she sighed and she went to her office where she opened one of her desk drawers where she kept her notebook.  She used to write poems about Meredith or write how she felt about the current situation.

"If you felt the same as me,
You were here with me,
You were my girlfriend and I your princess,
There is nothing wrong, wrong with giving it heat
You can hardly see everything that I feel for you
You have me crazy, woman, I do not say that I do not want
You are the cure for my love and you don't know it
Not having you keeps causing me suffering
But if you saw me with the eyes that I see you
You will be my Juliet and I will forever be your Romero "he finished writing in his notebook "Oh Meredith, what am I going to do with you?"

"You see your gypsy"

The redhead buried her face in all of her papers on her desk, wondering how to convince Meredith to go with her.  If only the 22-year-old wasn't so innocent.

And now here, after a month, the two women met again in the same old place. Hoping no one would see them.

Shit!  It was the damn 21st century!  Why did they have to hide their love like it was the biggest aberration in the world ?!

Addison swore that if it weren't for Meredith, she would kidnap her from her and bring her to her house.  She can't describe how frustrated he feels with her, but she truly loves the blonde so much that she would secretly date her for the rest of her life if that was Meredith's decision.

"Addie," called her girlfriend who was looking at her with curious eyes. "How much do you think?"

"On the night of our first kiss." She moved her eyebrows so that she made Meredith laugh. "A year ago when our little secret started"

"Addison I ..."

"Shh." She put her finger between Meredith's lips who watched her with her blazing blue eyes. "Strangely no one was around, so you opened your blouse and showed me your breasts on the swing located in the old playground."

Meredith looked away from her, totally sorry for her at the words of the redhead who only smiled when she noticed the other woman's cheeks turn a crimson color.

"And when you leave I still see you, with the sunlight on your face.  At sunset I just want to hear your voice, because our love cannot be destroyed. ”I take a small box from her pocket. "Take pictures like the covers of the Brautigan books you loved so much, visions of those sweet days. So now I ask you Meredith Gray, would you like to be my wife?"

"Oh Addison," I sob. "I can not do this"

"What?"

That made something inside the redhead break completely.

"My family has just signed a marriage contract to join me with another gypsy.  I will be married in three weeks"

"No, no, no, wait a minute." The redhead began to hyperventilate. "You can't do this, they can't do this, you can't marry that gypsy"

"Not that I want to, they already paid my family an amount of money for the wedding arrangement, I can't just leave" Meredith caressed Addison's cheeks, where tears ran. "But we can continue to see each other, it will not be so recurrent but at least we will not lose communication completely."

"Why not go right now?" The redhead backed away from the younger one. "I really love you, I want to spend the rest of my life by your side, discovering new things"

"Me..."

"Meredith!  I'll only ask this once. ”His sharp green gaze from hers could perpetuate Meredith's soul. "Go with me or get married?"

"Damn, maybe once, maybe twice
And everything goes to you "

"Don't make me decide Addison, I lived for many years under these customs" And with that she knew what her decision was "I just need time to think"

"Weather?!  What time Gray ?!"

"Speak lower Addison, someone can hear us" I whisper and at the same time speak firmly

"Oh! Are you afraid that someone else will find out about us ?!" She shook her hands in an exaggerated way. "I'll make it easier for you and make the decision for both of us.  So here it all ends and you can feel relieved to get rid of a paya like me who only filled your body with "sin"

"I never said that..."

"You don't need to say more," Addison spoke in a shaky voice. "Goodbye meredith"

Without further ado, she left that park in the direction of her car, she thought that perhaps Meredith would follow her and change her mind. But he only heard the sound of her heels echoing away from her, until it became inaudible.

"You have been trapped here forever
And you just can't say goodbye "

The following weeks, Addison spent most of the day in her bed, sleeping soundly with the medal she gave him, clutching it in her fist.  Thinking of all those afternoons where they went out for coffee or walking around town without being discovered by Meredith's family.

The way Addison opened her heart to Meredith like she had never done before, thinking of how her beautiful gypsy woman brightened hers days after a long day at the hospital.

He had even written a song for her, he would sing it in her ear the day Meredith accepted her marriage proposal.  But now all this no longer exists.

"I don't like seeing her like that," Callie spoke from the threshold of her room next to Arizona. "He looks like a tramp!  I think even a fly is standing together now in his eyes"

"Leave her! She's depressed, the love of her life is getting married today"

"Shh, I think she doesn't know, I even think she doesn't know what day is today"

Of course she knew it and that depressed her more, thinking that Meredith would move in with her, she left a space in the closet for her clothes, a drawer just for her things.  She had even bought another pillow so she could sleep next to her!

She is so pathetic since she now she just watches her loneliness, everything seems so gray now.

"I still see your bright eyes, bright eyes"

"Get that damn bum butt up!"

"Let me Callie!" I cry irritated

"Not! It's okay that you're sad, but you can't go on like this. ”Callie got up on the bed and started kicking Addison out of her. "You must fight for her one last time!  So you gon 'lift your dirty ass, take a shower and go steal your girlfriend"

"She already chose to marry, what would be the difference?"

"I do not mind!  Listen to me. ” The brunette grabbed Addison's cheeks, making her look directly into her eyes.  "Just over a year ago you were the bitter, arrogant, serious and damn stubborn Addison Montgomery and I think you still are in part. But when you met Metedith, something seemed to shine in your life, you anxiously waited for weeks to pass before you could see her, you didn't mind missing work if it meant that you could see her. I don't know her but I know that Meredith became the most important person in your life and that's why I hope you go for her and fight one last time"

Addison didn't say anything else, just got up and went straight to the bathroom.

"You see? She just needed a push, ”she said arrogantly, making Arizona roll her eyes.

Meredith looked at Derek in front of her who seemed disinterested, just dressed in a poorly fitted shirt as well as his tie, but his families seemed delighted with the union.

The blonde wore a beautiful white dress along with other jewelry, in addition to now wearing a scarf on her head to differentiate her from the single women.

"Can we start the ceremony?" Said the man who would marry them

"Not"

Everyone turned to see the woman who had said she "no" and Meredith almost jumped with happiness to see Addison standing. Her hair was shorter now and even she could tell it was a deeper red.

Her dress was incredibly elegant and that intimidates her a bit.

"Who are you and what are you doing here?" Everyone stopped when they saw a payo

"I'm Addison Montgomery and I'm Meredith's girlfriend," she said without flinching.

"What about you?!" Shouted Meredith's mother who approached the blonde who was looking at the scene with happiness

"Addison," Meredith said and ran towards her, but was stopped by her father who grabbed her by the arm.

"Can you explain what this fucking joke is about?"

"It's no joke dad." The youngest looked at Addison who just nodded as she smiled. "I've been dating Addison for a year, she's my girlfriend"

Her family made a surprised noise that soon turned into nasty comments towards her. Her mother slapped her and Derek just looked at her like she was a freak.

"You're a fucking scum! How could you sin like that ?!"

She soon felt like she was wrapped in the warm arms of Addison who caressed her cheek trying to alleviate the burning of the slap she received, she received a reassuring smile as well as a look full of overwhelming brightness.

"Meredith is no scum, she did not commit any sin or mistake by falling in love with a woman. You don't love her daughter so much that you accept her sexual orientation. ”Addison's voice came out firm and deep."I love Meredith and I say it freely, I am not ashamed to love her because she is the most complicated woman I have ever known, her trust problems, her temper, she is very indecisive, she will cause a lot of problems. She is sometimes weird and sometimes immature, but despite all her flaws she has a big heart and makes it all worthwhile."

When finished, it seems that that only made things worse since her parents seemed more furious than normal.

"Now would you like to escape with me?" Addison smirked.

"It would be a pleasure"

The two women ran away, they only heard the screams of her family who asked them to come back, but they did not care, that was the last image their mother had of Meredith. And for the blonde that was the beginning of her great adventure.

Only Meredith's heels could be heard echoing through the street, the hair of the two of them was eleven in the air they received when running, full of adrenaline and happiness.

"You are crazy!" Meredith yelled as she was inside Addison's car

"I just did the right thing." The redhead almost cried knowing that things would improve from now on. "Are you ready?"

"I always was Addison"

And I start the car, driving to her new life, listening to the euphoric screams of Meredith who took the scarf from her hair and threw it without looking back.

Now it would just be Addison and Meredith.

But in Addison's heart, Meredith would always be her beautiful gypsy.

End.

Notes:

Perhaps the little story did not have coherence or meaning for some, but that is how it came to my mind and I decided to write it as the ideas came to my mind.

I hope you liked it! <3
