Work Text:
“We’ve become a cliche,” Mateo says, wiping a bead of sweat from his brow as his last friend’s chest shakes with laughter beneath him. “That whole last night on Earth thing?”
“It’s one way to go out with a bang, yo.” Rufus is grinning—he can feel it as he presses a kiss to the crown of his head. “I liked it.”
“Me too.” His chest is still heaving as he speaks, short sentences the only thing he finds himself capable of as he wraps his arm around the other boy’s waist, now covered by the thin fabric of his bed sheets. They really ought to put more clothes on, they’ve got shit to do and not a lot of time to do it, but he doesn’t care. He just wants to lie here holding Rufus for as long as he can. While they still have time. “Thanks for making me feel alive.”
Weak laughter causes him to tilt his head up, eyes closing blissfully as another kiss finds its way to his forehead. “Couldn’t let someone as good looking as you die a virgin.”
Mateo snorts his amusement. “I would’ve been happy just to hold you for a while, you know.”
“So would I, but your hands had… other ideas.”
“Bastard things.”
Another laugh passes between them as Mateo shifts from his resting place on Rufus’s chest, lips lingering over his for a fraction of a second before placing a short, sweet kiss there. “Will you hold me now?” his friend—his lover, if only for a moment—asks.
Kissing him again one more time, this time a little longer, a touch slower, he nods, swallowing the lump that’s fighting it’s way into his throat. “I’ll hold you as long as you need. Until the world ends.”
“Perfect,” he replies, arms wrapping around Mateo’s waist until he’s pulled flush against him, the sheets ruffling quietly as his fingers trace little circles in his back, soothing him until he starts to fall asleep.
